Annoying neighborhood kid

Yesterday afternoon Cami was in the backyard playing. All of a sudden I hear her barking like a crazy dog. I go outside to see what she is reacting to and I get to the side of my house where I can see to the street between my house and the neighbors. I don't see anything. As I am walking but still not to the fence just yet I hear something that sounds like a dog yapping but a little higher pitched. Still I don't see anything. Then all of a sudden I see a little kids head pop around the corner from my neighbors house. This friggin kid is teasing my girl.

I just reacted on pure adrenaline. I said "You need to stop!" He immediatly took off running. So, here I go running thru my house to get to the front door so that I can see where he lives. I watch him get to his home about 7 doors down.

Hubby comes home and I tell him what happened and that NO ONE messes with my girls! I decided that I was going to go to talk with the parents and let them know that I would like for him to stop teasing my dog. He is more than welcome at anytime to come and play with her but he is not to tease her. She has never hurt anone or ever jumped the fence but that is not to say that she can't get over it with a good reason and just her running at full speed into this kid could knock him down and he could get hurt.

He proceeds to describe the kid to me in detail, and that he heard that same thing happening the day before but he went to look and didn't see the kid doing anything just walking. So now we know for sure of 2 days in a row that this has happened.....

Is it right for me to go and do this? I don't want to seem like a crazy dog lady but it's not fair of him to be doing this to my dog or any other dog for that matter. I don't want to get him in trouble nor do I want to start a neighborhood war over this.

Opinions please??

Yep--go talk to the parents. They need to know what's going on! Then if something were to happen, like her lunging at him while on a walk (or something) then you and the parents know why.

Give her a smooch from me.... poor frustrated girl!!

If you look back on my threads......this is exactly how me and my next door neighbour got into a fist fight, her kids where pooking sticks through the fence and she couldn't understand why everytime the dogs saw the kids they went nuts....I agree go and talk to them....but just remember...its there child and most parents think they are angels and would never think of doing anything like that !!!!....when in fact they are little devils !!!

The best of luck

Absolutely go talk to the parents!Tell them he is more than welcome to come play with the girls but not to tease them.He needs to be made aware of the repercussions(sp?) of teasing animals. What if she decides to go over the fence after one day becoming sick of him?And if you haven't spoken to the parents or tried to stop this behavior...then they would look to your baby to blame. His parents need to nip this in the bud....it's teasing now...but will it escalate to some sort of other behavior...throwing rocks...trying to harm the girls?Absolutely talk to the parents!Good Luck and keep us posted!

I would say it nicely for sure like Laurie said its their kid and he does not harm! say I noticed your son likes dogs!! I see him often hanging around my yard watching my dogs and if he would like to come and play with them its okay with me but I'd rather he didn't hang around the fence it may make them a little defensive or something like that. Then he will either get shit for hanging around your yard or you may end up with a visitor.

I would recommend first talking to the kids parents. If that does no good, then how close is your garden hose to where the kid was teasing your dog. Catch him teasing your dog again and OOPS! he accidentally gets soaked. If the garden hose isn't close enough, check Walmart or Target for one of the Super Soaker water guns. :)

I would talk to the parents in a friendly manner. I think saying that the kid can come over and play is good because then they'll know you're not against the kid just his teasing.

Please talk to the parents...

My previous dog was the sweetest and the kids in our alley would throw rocks at him. Because I couldn't figure out where they were from, I couldn't talk to the parents. Eventually he got mean towards kids and ended up biting my friend's daughter. She loved dogs and wanted nothing more than to play with him. He could have hurt her much worse than he did, but she was still very afraid and upset. It is very difficult to train a dog to not have issues with children if they already do. But also remember that these people love their child as much as you love your Boxer and they may be very defensive. Handle them with kid gloves and they will probably be more receptive.

i vote to talk to the parents. It could be that the kid is TRYING to play with your pups. I would also explain that you know that with the right motivation the pups can get over the fence and that you dont want anyone to get hurt (or your pups lost!) Maybe the kids can come play later on and properly meet the dogs.

Talk to the parents!
I am a parent myself and I would want to know if one of my
"little angels"
was behaving this way. I would be worried, as a parent, of my child getting bitten.
Be nice, but firm. Good Luck!
