Really be careful of posting a sign - I too have been told a Beware of Dog sign can make it seem you know your dog is violent, so now you are liable if someone gets bitten. I am in Michigan.
As far as trespassing, I am not sure but many people are sued when say, a kid climbs a fence to get to a pool and then drowns, even though they were not asked to be on the property. I know the horses, like pools, are attractive nusiances - and you are responsible if some trespasses and gets hurt.
How screwed up is our legal system? It should be easy your dog is in your yard - no one should be in your yard!
