We have this neighbor that comes to visit her parents everyday. Well our older boxer Clover really doesn't like her. She is the only person that she will bark grawl and hair standing up at her. But the neighbor insisted that she is only talking to her.

Well we were gone for the weekend and my husband sister was here watching the skin kids and fur babies. When she came over she was standing by the fence talking to the the dog well needless to say she put her hand on top of the fence and Clover nipped her. She was asking my 11 year old daughter is she had all her shots. I've told this women time and time again that I don't think she should even try to pet her but she doesn't seem to understand me. I don't know who I should call to see about protecting myself if something like this was to happen again but it's like when she comes over she is provoking her. Like teasing a little kid and my dog doesn't like it.

We have neighbors on the other side of us but she doesn't ever bother them. Need advise. Anything would be helpful.

I would politely but sternly say to her the next you see her that, you have to insist that she not talk or come near clover for the mere fact that Clover for some reason or another is not fond of you and you WILL NOT be responsible for Clover reacting towards her in any way. So please for both our sakes please stay away from clover!!

All you can really do is insist that she does not do or say anything to Clover. Not sure if it would help, but maybe you can put a sign on the fence stating not to pet the dog. I know it is a bit tacky...but it will serve as a written document (I think) just in case the lady gets any bright ideas.

Where do you live?

I had a mail lady who when she walked by our fence would kick it and provoke our dog! Needless to say one day Bear got out ( He was a chow wolf mix)! He attacked her and bit her up pretty badly!

My father had been witness to this and decided to vidoe tape her doing it! Well she decided to sue my family! We went to court with the video and the case was thrown out!

In Michigan if you put up a Beware of dog sign it show's liabilty that you knew your dog was violent! And you can be held accountable for it!

My advice is to confront her as was meetioned above but take a tape recorder and call her by name! Explain to her that for some reason the dog doesnot like her and she may get bit if she proceeds to try to become friend's with your dog...

If nothing else you will have evidence that you warned her! And if you have done it numerous times almost any judge in a court situation will see that you tried to avoid the inevitable... People are just not to bright sometimes

And if that doesn't work think about putting up a privacy gate... (The big wooden one's that are about 7 feet tall!)

(We live in Pa.)

The thing with the signs is the lady doesn't know how to read. She is in some ways not normal. I'm not sure what is really wrong with her but she doesn't get it.

With the wood fence, The fence that is already there is their's So I don't know if that would ever happen. They are nosy neighbor's watch everything you do.

And with Clover she would never hurt a fly. I tried to explain that I don't know if clover will bit you because she is only 11 month old and she was never put in a position where she would have to bit someone. I also stated that I don't believe she wants to be her friend. But it is any everyday thing. I guess I will figure something out. Thanks Everyone for you advice hopefully this won't ruin our whole summer.

It seems that if someone were to purposefully reach over into your yard, reguardless of who owns the fence, and try and pet your dog that they are just taking their safety into their own hands.

Just assume that there was not a dog, and for whatever reason she decided to reach into your yard and was to cut herself on the fence, is that your fault as well? I believe that any part of her (including hand/arm) that is entering onto your property is considered trespassing, IF it is without your consent/knowledge.

Perhaps you could speak with her parents that are your actual neighbors? Like you said, she is not normal in whatever form that encompasses so you may have to go through the parents to get her to understand?

It seems that telling her face to face is not registering and I am sure that you don't want her to get hurt or to have to put your pup in that situation where it feels that it must protect itself and its surroundings.

Good-Luck

Who needs neighbours eh ?
I would definatly tape or get a witness of you telling her not to pet your dog or tresspass over your air space.
Clover can probably feel your growing anxiety over her and will be even more freaked out.
Some people are so self absorbed, thats why they dont get it. My neighbour constantly slams her gate day and night. She has her kid run and scream through our shared entry. This really winds Buster up, But then she moans about Buster barking as they come and go!

My friend owns cats both inside and outside, well her neighbor decided to buy a boat and left it uncovered and then knocked on her door saying he was going to take her to cort for her cats scratching up his leather captains seat. She said if my cats are scratching it i will pay. So she set up a hidden camera for 3 days, her cats got in the boat but the cat that was doing damage was the guys own cat. You should def use a camera and a tape recored. Keep us posted!

I live in PA and my husband was just telling me that a friend from work just had to get rid of one of their jack russels. It bit someone in their neighborhood and they were fined $7500.00 in addition to having the dog taken away. They weren't putting it down though. The wife was telling DH that we should definately get a sign in our yard because that was one of the reasons they were fined so much. So, just in case, I am going to do it. I wish I could find one that said, BEWARE OF ONE OF THEM! :)
