It is funny that someone brought this up. Cooper doesn't get crated at night and when I start moving around too much he gets up, stretches and shakes his head so his ears flap. Of course CoCo would sleep forever if it wasn't for that noise. THAT is her alarm clock, it wakes her up, not me, but her and of course the jealousy is almost instantly apparent because HE is out and SHE is still locked up. If I keep Cooper in bed and try to get him to settle CoCo would probably sleep the day away.
-- I personally don't mind the sound ... it is just that he wakes up little miss sassy pants to start her day .. she is NOT a morning dog btw.
Betty, cropped, does the same thing. We have an older Jack Russell mix that also does it. Must be a "dog" thing. I agree, it does seem loud!

Indy's got big, noisy flappers too. I've always thought it was cute! He generally does it when he is getting up from laying on the floor, right along with a good stretch. Give the baby time and I'm sure he'll get used to it. As for your wife? She'll probably be able to tune it out eventually, or else just turn over and go back to sleep once it stops waking the baby.
Every boxer I have ever had has done the ear flap after laying down somewhere for a while. It's just a common thing you probably have to just learn to live with. It's basically like stretching. I don't really know how you would get him to stop really, unless you go rub his ears all around before he wakes up or something?
This is a funny thread!
My two also do this, pretty much, after their night time sleep or at least a long nap. I think its natural and probably goes back to their beginnings in the wild, maybe had something to do with 'shaking off the scent' of where they stayed for that particular night. Or maybe shaking off any weeds/grasses that they may have laid in and gotten covered in. If you think about it, it may be something like we humans, when we run our hands thru our hair and shake it back off our face. Maybe when dogs wake up, it's their way of getting their hair to lay back down in place after getting mussed. Not to be pretty but again, having something to do with the wild, like keeping off the rains, etc. I would guess that it would be very hard to break them of the habit but I don't really know. We have an air purifier in our bedroom and it makes 'white noise' while running so I find it helpful in lots of situations. If the dogs are shut in the bedroom with me and I don't want them to get all excited when they hear their dad get home or something, the noise muffles everything. Shae barks when she hears outside noises, like a cardoor that sounds close but it's not at our house. White noise muffles these things. You and your baby would get used to white noise too, whatever the origin. Just realize that it would also mean that your baby would probably not sleep as soundly if it has no white noise so it could be both good and bad. It's just whatever you get used to so probably, the baby will acclimate to it.
It's their wake-up call to us sleepy mommies and daddies that it's time to start the day....At 6:00am....Unacceptable, just unacceptable. WHEN will they start sleeping in? Little boogers
