Hello,
Can somebody give us a reminder of which anesthetics should not be used with Boxers... and maybe some safe alternatives.
I am taking "Oscar in to the vet next week and the vet uses something called "Zolapan" i am not sure if that is spelt correctly, can't remember.
Thanks
Chris

Chris- Good Idea
Here it is DO NOT EVER USE ACEPROMAZINE on boxers!!! Here is the link. Print it out and take it to the vets with you. If your vet gives you a hard time load your dog up and go home and find a new vet! This is a life and death matter. http://www.boxerrescue.org/InfoPages/Acepromazine.html
Good substitutes are isoflourine gas or xylezene (sp?)! What procedure are they doing that they have to knock Oscar out? Good Luck!

Thanks Tanyia,

Thats a great help, "Oscar" has a umbilical hernia which needs to be corrected, my vet has assured me that it will only be a 10 minute operation with minimal risk. Its a problem here finding a vet who speaks good enough English but i think this one is pretty good, he works for a local safari park in his spare time working with tigers, elephants, crocodiles etc. I will let you know how it goes
Thanks again
Chris and Oscar
