Okay, I just have to take a minute to brag and say how proud I am of my Abby. The last couple weeks, we've been working on recall, and stay pretty heavily because 1) at the park, she doesn't like to come back to me when I'm ready to go and 2) she (as I'm sure you all know what I mean) gets really excited when people stop by and wants to jump up on them. So the other night, I had ordered a pizza. When the delivery guy came to my door, I told her to sit and stay. She did! The delivery guy took what seemed like forever to get my pizza out of his little warmer thing, and to give me all the little packets of stuff, but she just sat there!! He even complimented her on it!! I was SO PROUD!! She got lots of praise for it, and I wanted to jump for joy. Jumping up on people when they stop by is one of here WORST habits, so you can all imagine how thrilled I was/am.

Anyway, now I'm better. haha

:D :D Congratulations on Abby's behavior. Any great advice on how you did it?? Inde and I have tried and tried and we are still having some problems. She is the most wonderful and well behaved puppy and then when we get out of the house (or around other peole) you would think that I spend no time with her and that she has had no training at all. I feel like people think that I am the most uncaring dog owner. She isn't aggressive, she justs loves people and other dogs.

Congratulations, it sounds like you guys are doing wonderfully!!!:D

Abby's about a year and a half old rescue.

I don't think I've done anything major to get her to start staying when I tell her to, other than just practice, practice, practice. I started by just making her stay when company comes over (and if she didn't, she got to come sit by me and not able to go see them) and making sure that she is rewarded while she stays. Plus, when my family comes over, they are really good about not petting her until she sits down and stops jumping up on them because they know we're working on it. We've also been working on it alot here when it's just us. I'll tell her to stay and then walk away and go into the other room before calling her to me to give her the treat and praise.

Abby still gets really excited when we go out. She still wants to jump on people there, but I don't let them pet her until she sits and stays, so she's catching on. It's weird, but with kids or older people (like my grandparents), she's never tried to jump up on them. I think it's kind of cool. She's never jumped up or even bumped my grandmother who had a stroke a while back....but she loves to play ball with grandma after grandma sits down. I think it's good for both of them.

If anyone else has other tips or tricks, I'd love to hear them too.
