We have only had our dog for 2 days, he's 8 weeks. But the first night here he slept through the whole night. He didn't drink any after 6pm. Is that right? I know the breeder was crate training, but from what everyone is saying it doesn't seem possible to go all night? I don't want to hurt him, but if he can hold it without accidents or waking us up - ?
Am I doing her harm, and loosing the battle?

Just an update - last night (his second with us) he slept from 9:30-4am when he started crying. When he stopped crying my wife went to let him out. But he didn't do anything. She walked him around the same area I did, and gave him 5 or 10 minutes, but no action. She came back in, and he just wanted in her lap - so she relaxed him and put him back in the cage. But I don't get it - does he need to be going or not? I have been a little concerned that he isn't drinking much water since coming home 2 days ago. He goes to the vet today for a checkup.
An 8 week old puppy woold normally need to pee pretty frequently, but if she's not drinking much, that will be why she's not needing to pee. I'd try giving her some water with a little milk added to it, and see if that will pursuade her. Canned food is another thing worth trying - it's 90% water, so if she'll eat that at least you know she's taking in some fluid. Young puppies can get dehydrated easily though, and that can be dangerous, so it is definitely something to watch. Good that she's seeing a vet today
