Am I being crazy?? Need help here

Just recently some teenage boys stole a English bulldog from a backyard. The story was on the news and the people the boys sold the dog to returned it. The dog was worth $1000 and that made the theft a felony. There is a lot of construction going on in my new subdivision and several dogs have gone "missing" from their yards during the day. I had a van with several people in it pass me 4 times slowly during one of my walks with Sherlock one
night. The third time really alarmed me. We took an extra 30 minutes before I headed down my street to make sure they didn't pass us a 5th time. And one night walking Copper I had a guy offer me 100.00 for him, his bumper sticker about Pit Bulls didn't make me think he wanted him for a pet. You can't be too careful now, unfortunately that's the world we live in.

I agree with everyone else. I don't think you're crazy at all. There is a spate of "dog-knappings" going on where I live at the moment and I never let Spud out of my sight. I would be inclined to report it if it happens again anyway, just so the police have a record of it. Like the others have said, it's better to be safe than sorry.

It is truly a sad world we live in where we can't let our dogs out to play without being worried. I'm also very fearful when it comes to my children there are way too many sickos in the world and unfortunately our jails are full of people charged with drug possestion and the rapist, violent people are getting out early for there is not enough room in our jails. It is very scary. I would definately keep a very close eye on your baby you can never be too careful!

We too, live in Indiana and I don't hear much of "dog-napping" in our rural area. Sophie, like your baby, pretty much gets to roam free around our place and she is fairly good about her "limits." One day she was laying out in the orchard, rolling around and scratching her back, acting her usual silly self and I see a truck stop so I tear off running like a teen-ager, not the gr-ma that I am! Two men are getting out of the truck and I am screaming to Sophie to "Come now", she does but the men kept coming. She's at my side by now, with her hackles up and head low, staring at the men. They proceed to tell me that they thought she was their dog that had disappeared. I very politely tell them she is not their dog. Well, they decide she is not their dog, because she has a case of alopecia on both sides and their dog didn't have this problem. Needless to say, this is one instance that I was greatful for Sophie's alopecia. Things can happen so fast, it's scarey. We never allow Sophie outside unless we are out. That is one rule that is steadfast with us. (Sophie seems to be able to cause us to break most of the rules!):o Patty

I know two people who have had their Boxer pups stolen from their backyard. One person had another dog, a lab, in the backyard as well and they just took the Boxer pup. The pup was dropped back in their backyard 2 months later and was barely alive.

The other family left their Boxer pup in the backyard for the first time and were gone for not even an hour and when they returned, the pup was gone!

We are now extra careful even though we don't live anywhere near those neighborhoods! We have had one expierenence though where one of us was walking Lily and a car with very tinted windows started following us very slowly, even around a corner, and we were able to duck in the shadows and get away. Very scary! We now feel that everyone out there is out to get our poor Lily!

This doesn't sound good at all.

My breeder was at work one day and came home to 2 of her boxers gone(she has 4). The father of my pup who is also the first boxer they had owned and the mother of my pup who at the time was there newest edition. Someone had come into there yard and stolen the dogs. My breeder does not live on the main road either so this had to have been someone who had been there before. But the happy ending to the story is that there dogs are so faithful to them that they dug under whatever fence they were in and found their way back home. They had scratches on their backs from getting under the fence but they were fine otherwise. Ahhh, the loyalty of a boxer.
Anyway, I would DEFINATELY be VERY careful with this kind of suspicious activity going on, because they could be wanting them for anything from breeding to fighting to just plain being cruel to an animal. Good Luck! I hope they weren't up to anything but you should probably alert you naeighbors as well.

I don't think your crazy. I would collect as much info as possible on these teenagers. I live in the city , and a neighbor of mine had her 3 month old lab puppy stolen, and never returned. She is devastated. I am still paraniod to let Oscar play in the yard unattended, even with Lilly my hound that tends to bark like crazy at strangers that come into our yard. And she has that loud,deep hound bark that you can hear several blocks away, so there is noone that can even get close to him without Lilly the alarm going off. I would watch your dog carefully, some people just don't understand that for some of us, that stealing someone elses dog is like kidnapping someones child.

You are not being crazy!! That does sound suspicious to me.
As far as I am concerned when it comes to our babies we can never be too careful.
When we first got Kosmo DH wanted to let him stay out in the yard while we are at work (when we have nice weather of course). I said "no way someone could come & steal him". I know DH thought I was being papranoid but I don't care. Kosmo is our baby & if something ever happened to him I would never forgive myself.

I also think this behavior is suspicious. Be careful & watch your girl!
There are alot of creeps out there that do crazy things that 'normal' people would not. Just recently I heard on the news a man near where I live got caught in the act trying to steal 5 pit bull pups to use for fighting. Better safe than sorry!

i can't imagine teenagers stopping to admire a dog.

I beg your pardon! tsk tsk tsk, when are people going to realise that teenagers can be equally passionate about things (OTHER THAN SEX OR DRUGS) as adults? i know that if i saw a beautiful boxer, i would run right over and snuggle like crazy! i am nearly 16, so i guess i count as a teenager, and shanz is 19 and she contributes to this site more than most people do! we both know a lot about dogs and boxers, more than most adults! all the adults in my family know that if they have a question about dogs, they come to me. and i am NOT the exception! there are LOTS of kids like me- MOST kids are like me! i'm sure that the BW members with teens will know what i mean.

what i'm trying to say is, don't assume that they're out to get you just because they are teens. i understand if they are being rude or disrespectful (adults can be equally if not MORE SO rude and disrespectful, don't forget it! especially to teenagers! if only i had a buck for everytime i was pejudiced against or belittled by an adult, despite the fact that i am an intelligent, knowledgable person. the only thing i lack is experience!) you SHOULD be cautious, and you SHOULD be careful, DESPITE THE AGE OF THE PERSON!

*sigh* i know that i am probably overreacting, but it boils my blood that people are so unfair about us kids! we try so hard to be respected, and all we get is flak! *whew* okay i'm really going to stop this time :D. i KNOW that you all probably know this already, i really don't want to offend anyone! i'm sure you all understand that i need to rant a little bit!
