After going through mct removal in November, taking a LONG time to recover... tons of meds to ward off infection... my boy has been experincing intermitent diarrhea for about a month now.
I have been feeding him boiled chicken, rice, bananas and cottage cheese for about 3 weeks. I took him to the vet this morning, because the problem just is not going away. His bowel movement vary from solid to diarrhea, almost always accompanied by mucus. The doc is running a full fecal panel and prescribed phlagyl. He also sent me home with Science Diet i/d.
Of course I come home to read the boards and all feedback on the food is bad. Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative dry food that is bland????
Also, I have had him on Canidae for about 3 years now with much luck, but am thinking he needs a change, what foods are a good alternative choice?

How about a raw natural diet. It is the best thing, especially for boxers with digestive issues. The next best thing would be a grainless kibble, like Innova Evo. I hope Tyson is feeling better soon. If he is still on meds, I would make sure that he gets some yogurt or digestive enzymes to get the good bacteria back into the gut, since antibiotics kill all the bacteria, the good and the bad. :(

I have thought about doing a raw diet, but I don't know where to get the info on how to get started.
Innova Evo, is that bland?

I don't know if you would call Innova Evo bland, but it doesn't have any grains in it so it tends to be easier on the digestive tract. That is why raw is often a magic bullet with dogs that have digestive problems. It is just so much easier for them to digest. Dogs digestive tracts just weren't made to deal with grains. You will never find a wolves or coyotes chowing down on a grain field. :)

A good place to start in finding info on feeding raw food is the raw feeding forum.

Good luck!

Genflora by Cycles of LIfe is an excellent supplement for dogs with diarrhea. Its full of probiotics. Innova Evo is an excellent food, no grains, high protein and fat content though.
