Alternative to Rawhide?

Lately, Riley has been chewing through her rawhide bones faster and faster. When she was smaller, the rawhides seemed to last forever...several months anyway (she's almost 1yr). I know alot of people don't favor rawhides, but I never leave her unattended with the rawhides and try not to let her swallow pieces of them. I'm looking for some other affordable "chew alternative" for Riley as she is a pretty aggressive chewer and likes to spend several hours a night munchin' away. I've heard alot of people recommend Nylabones, but the ones I've looked at at PetSmart or PetCo were really expensive (up to $20) and I am very hesistant to spend that much money on a bone that I am not sure she will really like and that will be durable.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an aggressive chewer? For those of you that like Nylabones - what flavor does your pup prefer, what size do you get, how much are they? All suggestions are greatly welcomed...Riley thanks you too!

A BAD CUZ!!!! Ali has yet to destroy hers and it only cost 5 dollars!!! Or you could get bully sticks! BUT. . . I just recently learned thatrawhide is not good for dogs! If you do a search you can find the threads where there are lots of alternatives listed!

If your dog is a big chewer, Bad Cuz (or any Cuz!) will not be a good choice. I've seen several threads on here about Boxers who have swallowed Cuz feet. Bad Cuz is not as durable as a kong and is not meant for chewing. It's more of a fun squeak/fetch toy.

You can find cuz at almost any pet store. Just a warning...IMO the squeaker can break pretty easily. Riley has broken a couple of them.

Or I would suggest the Orka from Petstages, they carry it at Petco. Max has one that he loves, it is indestructible.

Daisymom- I know at the PetSmart store they have kongs- several sizes and styles. Titan has a regular kong and also one on a rope to play tug-o-war. Might try like JBpet and Drs. Fosters&Smith also- they got all kind of dog stuff.

Titan is also a very strong chewer. He wont stop playing with a toy until he has the squeaker out. So I buy a lot of kongs, and he gets a weekly edible nylabone( they are flavored). I know a lot of ppl recommend the regular nylabones, but I just dont feel comfortable about them for some reason. There is a new bone at PetSmart here called a Rhino bone- kinda funny shaped thing but is very expensive (around $20) to me that is a bit high for just a chew toy. Kongs are the best in our house at least, so I stick to them mainly. By the way- we have the Cuz' toys here and they are soooo annoying and irritatingly loud, plus Titan isn't that amused by them- they might be too loud for him the way he acts when they squeak.

Real bones

Just a thought, I just got back from puppy kindergarten and this was discussed. The instructor is a former boxer breeder and has been a boxer trainer for years. She suggested using soup bones with the marrow in. I imagine they might be a bit messy, but a heck of a lot cheaper than some of the alternatives.

Soup bones do sound like a good idea, but you're right about them being messy. I can just see it now...Riley laying on my bed munchin' on one of those things - yuck! Plus, my apt is all carpet so it might stain. I might try it once and see how it goes. Thanks for the thought though!
