Alopecia update

Hi Everyone
Well its been a while but we may finally have got somewhere with these bald patches. Have tried numerous/countless outlets but finally came across a specialist herbalist in England [Hiltons - www.hiltonherbs.com] who felt that they could help. 3 weeks ago we obtained a tub of their "Phytobalm" - topical application. I never like to say something is working but we think that this is helping so keep your hopes up for us.

I'm just curious; was this hair-loss problem ever diagnosed as demodetic mange, by any chance?

I have an eight-month old male fawn that has about four or five small areas of hair loss that is, evidently, a result of the demodex mites. Fortunately, they don't seem to be getting worse.

Latest development is the mitaban prescribed by the vet has now been taken off the market. His advice at this point: Wait for him to "outgrow" the problem. Leaves me feeling rather helpless.

I'm curious about the phytobalm you mentioned.

Dear Julie M:

I spoke with my veterinarian earlier this week about my dog's minor problem. He had attended a veterinary conference somewhere here in No. Cal. with a cohort. Evidently, he received a message to either not prescribe the mitaban or someone is directing them not to allow it as treatment. (I apologize for not knowing the nitty-gritty details, but I don't believe I'd be able to get the mitaban if I went back right now to the vet to get some).

It's obviously pretty strong stuff, and the numerous e-mails I've read via this website certainly confirm that...

I'll get more details, but my belief right now is--at least here in my little town near San Jose, Ca--that they would no longer prescribe it. That may be due to the fact that it's off the market.

Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately?) I still have plenty if I wanted to keep using it, but I was told to stop and play the "wait and see" game in terms of hoping my little guy outgrows this malady.

The concept I continue to struggle with is that even if I were still using it, it's simply a symptomatic treatment. I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. The vets tell me I'm doing nothing wrong....

Alopecia

Babe was diagnosed with "Seasonal Alopecia". No mites/fleas etc etc.
Hilton Herbs "Phytobalm" produced a complete cure. I would highly recommend it. It worked very fast and effectively - even the very stubborn first bit of alopecia. My vet told me that the alopecia was uncurable and if I was lucky it "might" grow back. Im not saying it wont happen again but at least I know what will bring the hair back. Babe was bad - all along one side of her flank was bald! She now has a lovely full coat and happy little girl.
We also changed her onto a new diet at the recommendation of a Boxer enthusiastic. I dont know if you can get this food in your part of the world - we are in the UK. It is called
James Wellbeloved - devised and manufactured by a Boxer breeder/exhibitor in England. It certainly suits our little girl and we will continue to use it. Dried kibble which we soak and mash up for her rather than just feed dry.
If you go to the Hiltonherb site - they have premises most places in the world - tell them the problem and they will get back to you with recommendations. They are very reasonable - all herbal so no harmful ingredients to your pet and their service is second to none. Good luck - let us know how you get on.
