I'm so glad that both of them are ok!!! We've started taking Rockys collar off when he's in the house and backyard. He's learned very fast that if we get the collar out it's time to go for a walk or his most favorite thing, a car ride.

I'm so glad everyone is okay. This is the exact reason why my babies do not wear collars around the house.

My heart was just beating when I saw your thread--I had to rush through to make sure everyone was okay. I am so sorry you had such a scare--but I am glad your babies are okay.

Good lesson there--thank you for sharing your experience. I always try to make sure Ginny's collar is off when she is in the house, but that reiterates WHY!

My kids run naked both in the house and in the yard. The collars are used on walks but I just realized they wear them to day care as well (never know when one can get out somehow) but now I need to reconsider that. The collars are the quick release types - squeeze the connection and they pop right off.

between a rock and hard place

I had the same thing happen, I am so glad your babies ar OK. When it happened to our babies they both had break away collars and it didn't help ( so much for break away :( ) so, it's hard to decide what to do, the whole purpose for collars is to have name tags, rabies tags and licenses just in case they get out or lost...but if you leave the collar on you risk this type of thing happening. These days, both of ours still wear their collars but I am VERY careful about running outside if I hear them reallly getting into their play.

That is sooooo scary! Thank goodness they're both going to be ok. I don't leave collars on the dogs when they're in the house anymore because one morning I woke up and Hobart's collar had become entangled in a blanket. I was calling him for breakfast and usually he comes running like a bat out of hell for chow time but he wasn't coming. I went upstairs and he was straining with all his might to get off the bed but the collar had him pinned to the bed! You just never know what could happen so if I'm not around, no collars. And definitely no collars at bedtime ;)
