Well I think Lance is allergic to something. The only thing I can think of is he was digging in the dirt in the corner of the yard a few hours ago, and now he's acting quite weird and has some scaly welts in his ears. He's going to the vet in an hour. But it's obvious he's not in his happy place. Hopefully that's all it is. At first I thought it might be something with his stomach the way he was acting, but I'm pretty sure it's his ears since he keeps shaking his head. Poor pup.

Poor baby! Let us know how it goes at the Vet and what they think it might be. I hope his ears are much better soon :)

Thanks. The vet said it was a minor allergic reaction, to what is unknown. He didn't think it was his new wellness food. Probably something in the yard he got into. He did give him a mild steroid shot in the butt. He was better last night, but this morning he seems to be itchy again. If it keeps up I'll call and see what I can give him. On top of it he has coccidia. I'm sure he's hating life right now.

Well today he's covered in hives and is obviously itching like crazy. I went to the store and got some children's benedryl and was about to give it to him when the vet called (we'd called earlier) and said to bring him in. I'm holding off for now on the benedryl. He's sleeping right now versus trying to outrun his itching :) Poor pup.

Poor Cosmo! When Ronin had his allergic reaction, my Vet said to give him Benedryl and that it make take four or five days of it for the hives to go away. His ears were also really thick and 'hot' to the touch. The hives were gone within about four days, but his ears took another three or four days to be completely gone. Ronin also got a Cortizone shot from the Vet which did help, but not completely - the Benedryl was what really helped him. Again, let us know what the Vet thinks and I hope Cosmo feels better very soon! :)

Lance is back from the vet. He seems to think he was stung by something, or that it's some sort of contact allergy. Not thinking food at this point. He did say that if Lance has an allergic reaction like this so quickly, he may be prone to more allergies in the future (great). But for now, he gave him an IV steroid since the cortisone didn't do much to help him and told me to give him benedryl 3x per day. I'm sure he'll be readily comatose most of the time, but if it relieves his itching then whatever it takes. He wasn't a fan of the taste - I'm using the kids stuff. They only had bubble gum and cherry flavors. I tasted it and I don't blame him :) He's covered in welts. I posted a picture on my flickr account:

So sorry - I got his name wrong :( That's exactly what Ronin's welts looked like and it was the scariest thing to see! We never really knew what he got into either, however he avoided ALL flying insects for a good long while - so am leaning toward him either eating or getting stung by a Bee too. If this should ever happen again, you can use adult Benedryl: The dosage is 1 mg per 1 lb of body weight. Good luck and I hope those nasty welts go away soon!

No problem with the name :D The welts are down already, though the beneryl has knocked him on his behind. He's sleeping quite a bit, though apparently he got up to play a bit with his big brother Murphy for a while when I was at work. Whatever it was, I hope it was a 1 time incident :) Has Ronin had any other bouts like the one he had since?

I too just took Haleigh to the vet to get checked out. She was scratching her self so much, until her skin was raw and scabbed over. The vet said he never seen a dog so itchy and wanting to scratch no matter where you touched her. He really wasn't sure what was causing this either, so he suggested to get the allergy test. We are now waiting for results on that expecting a food allergy and maybe grass. We just want to help her feel better and understand what you are going through.
