Allergy to collar?

We have just put a collar on Sylas (11 weeks) as we took him to puppy training/socialization classes on Saturday. He hasn't taken to the collar at all (keeps scratching at it and walking goofy). I was cuddling him last night and found a scab on his neck where the buckle of the collar has been sitting. Could he have some sort of base metal allergy? I can't wear costume jewellery because of this and was wondering if he may be the same. It wasn't an expensive collar as he will grow too fast. Any ideas?

Are you sure his scab is from the buckle and not from him scratching? How long has he been wearing it? Do you keep it on constantly? I'm not sure about the likeliness of a metal based allergy (although i'm sure it's possible), but I know Nylon is a common allergy. Is his collar nylon?

If it is from the buckle, try switching to a collar with a plasic closure. If you think it's from the scratching I would switch to a leather collar. I know he is growing, so it may not be practicle.

That's all I can think of, but i'm no expert.

The scab was where the buckle was sitting and it is a nylon collar. I bought him a plastic clip one but if it is a nylon thing thats not going to help :(
He had been wearing it for 5 days. Trial and error I guess. Thanx.

My pups have never had any type of collar allergy but they wear leather. I have heard somewhere that some dogs can only handle the rolled leather collars. If the nylon turns out to be the problem, Petsmart sells cheap leather collars until he is done growing. I got Abbie one there it is the Latigo leather flat collar and it was only like $7-8, maybe more practical since he is growing and with leather you can buy bigger and punch holes in it to make it smaller so it grows with him more. May not look too pretty but when he is done growing you could upgrade him to a pretty collar. (Brady has a Harley Davidson one and says it makes him feel handsome ;))

Also, it is recommended that you don't wear their collars on them all the time, only when needed to go out. Too much of a chance of it getting caught on somethng and choking your baby.
