Sadies Dad

Boxer Pal
Hi everyone, It has been a while since I posted to this forum but here goes. My Sadie is a white 4 year old who has never showed any allergy signs. I took her out today and we spent an hour or so running in the fields by our house. The grass is not tall since the last snow bent it all flat. Anyway, tonight she has been acting uncomfortable and I had her lie down and when she rolled over her entire underside and armpits and bright red and covered with welts. It isnt hot and doesnt seen to be itchy but it is making her and me both uncomfortable. Any ideas, such as what it might be and what I can do to relieve her a little. I tried cortisone cream but it hasnt done anything
Thanks

Sounds like hives to me.
If they do not go away on their own, and Sadie starts to be bothered by them, try giving her Benedryl and see if that helps.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I gave her some benedryl last night. Just 25mg, which is not alot for a 75 pound dog. She was zonked all night and this morning I had to lift her off the couch so she could go out. Most of the redness is gone but she seems to be sensitive and still not herself. right now she is sitting really pretty under the dining room table asleep. Strange.

Casper was like that after being in the fields running, he is allergic to a few grasses (as well as lots of other things :()

Hi, my 2.5 year old boxer, Baxter, is allergic to grasses too, and he gets irritations that look like a poison oak reaction. It's hard to completely avoid grass, so when it flares up, my vet instructed me to give him 2- 25mg Benadryl (he is 60 lbs)... I used to give him only 1, and when I tried 2 he seemed extra sluggish. But it does seem to help over a couple day period, and it keeps him from itching and biting so much. I have heard of people giving their boxer generic for Claritin year round to help with allergies, as advised by their vet, but I wouldn't do so unless I got the go ahead from my vet. Good luck!
