Allergies.. and strange behavior

LaRon just recently started breaking out in a rash.. the vet gave us medicine and for the most part its gone away.. Today I noticed it came back so I took him back and he said it was just allergies.


On another note for the past couple of weeks he's been acting strange first it started with sleeping in between my boyfriend and I alllll night, sneaking up on the couch to lay with us. Following us around just to see what were doing. Now he won't sleep on the bed, if he's on the couch and we lay with him he'll jump off go to the other side of the room and lay by himself where we can't even see him.. anyone know why he's being so distant?

What medicine did the vet give you? Usually Benedryl is an effective way to treat allergies and doesn't have a ton of side effects.

Is it getting warm where you are? Johann loves to snuggle in the winter, but when summer starts.....he sleeps on the floor or on his bed.

If he's acting really different, it would be worth a complete vet exam to see if he's in pain/sick/something that is making him act so differently. The only reason we found out about Johann's thryoid issue was because he was not acting like himself, and I pushed the vet to keep doing tests until we figured it out.

I'm with Johann. Unless something has changed -- like another dog or pet -- that does sound like pain behavior. A trip to the vet might be in order. Your bank account was looking too healthy anyway.

hmmmmmmmmmm. well your right about one thing.. this little guy really does cost a lot of money.. Before we knew about his separation anxiety we were taking him to the animal hospital at least once a mth. but Thank you so much for your advice i hope his distance is only caused by the change in weather.. =/

What do you all feed your boxers? My boyfriend wants him to get big and bulky, but he wants to give him drugs from Mexico.. i really don't want that... so I'm looking for a food that will help him bulk up a bit.

I can't believe that your boyfriend wants to give this dog drugs. It simply amazes me what people will do. Here is what I would do. If bf wants to give drugs to bulk the dog up I would kick him to the curb. What's next....dog fighting? Boxers are a lean muscular breed. Boxers often take up to 3 years before they "grow" into themselves. If a bulky dog is what he wants then look into a different breed. If you want to feed a good food visit Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble. There are many good articles about feeding. Look into a dog food that is rated a 4 or better. I am not an expert on what could happen if you force a dog to bulk up too quickly, but I am sure that you could have bigger problems on your hands then. JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS!

You've got to be kidding me. "Good condition and muscular?" Yea muscular all right, but FAR from healthy. Ever seen what steroids does to humans?? They seem to be in "good muscular condition" for a little while and then it all goes downhill.

If your boyfriend got a dog to make him look more "macho" then maybe he should have just gotten a sports car....

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone somewhere thinks that giving dogs steroids is a good idea given the appalling things that people have been known to do to animals, but that doesn't make it any less shocking. Frankly, I would consider this abuse.

If you want a healthy muscular dog, feed it a good diet and exercise it regularly (but not excessively.)

To be honest, this angers me so much! I can't believe your bf thinks its okay to do this. And I agree, I do feel this is abuse. The nerve of some people, I swear. I don't understand why people get dogs to abuse them, fight them, etc..they are just like humans! Why put a dog on drugs when good food and exercise provide better and HEALTHIER results?

Sorry for the rant, but UGH- it makes me mad!
