My 6 1/2 month boxer had what we thought to be an allergic reaction about 3 weeks ago, we took her to the vet and he put her on the active version of predinsone and antibiotics and that seem to clear it up. We took away the shampoo and the food we were using before she broke out. However in the past week she has started to break out again, this is mostly on her back. We use medicated shampoo for every bath, and a mixture of Purina One Science diet and Kibbles n Bits puppy food. We are suppose to get her spay next week and have already put this off once due to the medicince and I don't want to delay it any longer. Any suggestions on what this could be

There are several different possibilities. It could be a food allergy, an environmental/weather allergy, a flea allergy (which can happen from as little as one flea!), etc. I would talk to your vet again and let them know that the problem has come back. You may have to go to a 'completely pure' diet (including not giving any treats that are not approved!! :) ) You may also consider asking your vet about doing allergy testing. Allergy testing can get a little expensive, but since your girl is having problems at such a young age, allergy testing (if it is an allergy problem) could be more cost effective and much better for your little girl in the long run. But I would definately talk to your vet. Hope your little girl gets better soon.

I would do a search on kibble, I think the feeding forum. There you can find info on better quality food. Purina is not a high quality food and she may be allergic to something in the food.

We feed Bayleigh Chicken Soup and have not had any problems.

You are definitely using two very poor quality foods to feed her (which could be your entire problem).

I would try switching her to a high quality food (one without cheap fillers and common allergens). Perhaps consider an allergy formula to feed her for a while, to see if that helps.

www.boxerworld.com/feeding has some great information on how to choose a good quality dry dog food.
