Allergic reaction?

Hey everyone, my boy had an allergic reaction to something yesterday (I'm assuming). I noticed small raised patches of fur at 8am so made an appointment at the vets. The earliest they could do was 11.30am. From 8-11.30 the swollen soft lumps went from a handful of really small ones, and spread and alot became really large, at least 10-15mm diameter, and then by 11am they had disappeared. So by the time the vet saw him they had gone and she just had my photos to look at. She sent us on our way saying it was an allergic reaction to something and we'd most likely never know what it was. Except that at 8am this morning I noticed the lumps again! Now it's 10am here and the lumps are huge again. I've taken some photos for you all in the hope that someone might recognise what this is and what causes it. He licks them so they must irritate him. There isn't anything new in his diet. He's nearly 16months old and his environment hasn't changed at all in that time. I know the obvious answer is to keep a really close eye on him to see if he's ingesting anything different. But other than that if any of you have experienced this and can help that would be much appreciated. Thanks

Those look like hives to me. Have you checked his bedding to make sure nothing is in there biting him? I would wash it to make sure there isn't a spider or something hiding in it. And vacuum all around as well. If he has been outside or something right before the breakouts look carefully around there. I hope you find the cause and can prevent it from happening again. Those look awfully uncomfortable.

I would also keep an antihistmine that has diphenhydramine. You can give 1mg per pound and most come in 25mg tablets. (At least in the US they do.) So if your boy weighs around 50 lbs., he would need two tablets. Also a cool compress can give some temporary relief.

Thanks so much The bedding was changed on Sunday (I thought it could be the washing powder but he's never had a reaction before and is fine during the night, no hives). I'll wash everything again today anyway, just to be on the safe side, and clean the house thoroughly.

I doubt it's outside because he's out during the day and they seem to wear off eventually. Thanks for the tip on medication. I'll get some from the vets. I rolled a cold can over them to see if they went down so will do that if they appear again this morning.

I've now got a feeling it could be a new moisturiser I bought just started using it on Sunday. He wakes me up by sniffing and licking my face and that's the only thing I can think of that's different that he's had contact with. I didn't put it on last night so will see if there's any change this morning.
