Hello! Two days ago I noticed Comet had a small welt on the side of his leg and didn't think much of it since him and his brother play rather hard together sometimes. Yesterday, though, I woke up and freaked out! He had welts everywhere! I asked around and called my vet and they told me that it is more or less an allergic reaction to something and to give him benedral. I did that but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. The vet said I shouldn't worry but I can't help but to worry. Is this something I just need to wait out and let the medicine kick in or should I have seen some results by now? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like hives. Could be an environmental allergic reaction, food allergic reaction, or a reaction to stress. Benadryl works for some and not for others. If you give a couple of doses and it hasn't helped I'd call your vet back and see what they advise.

I took him into the vet today and they said he seems to be clearing up so that is great news. They told me a few more doses should clear up any remaining hives that are still around. I did receive some bad news today though. It appears Comet has a heart murmur. I don't know much about them so naturally I am scared of it. The doctor said it is only a small one. A 1 on a scale of 6 but I am still worried. :(

How old is Comet? Many puppies have murmurs and grow out of them. However boxers are known for heart issues so keep on eye on it as he grows. As for the hives, I had a similar thing with Arabella when she was under a year. She came inside with a small bump. Didn't think much of it. Two hours later she was covered in hives. I took her to the vet they gave her a shot and she was on benedryl for a few days. That was 3 yrs ago and she never had it happen again.

Comet is just under a year and a half. The doctor told me he wasn't trying to scare me and actually got a second opinion from another vet to make sure he was even hearing a murmur. She did hear it too but said just to keep an eye on it and make sure I let the vet know if he ever needs a surgery or related procedure. The hives are gone now but he is still acting irritable towards my other two dogs. The one is still a pup and loves to play with Comet but these last few days he hasn't been up for it. I am hoping he is just still a little worn out and probably a little stressed from the weeks events. Hives and a visit to the vet were definitely not on his fun list, I'm sure lol.
