allergic reaction?? PLEASE HELP!!!

last night about 4 am Allie started crying

i turned the light on only to see about 150 bumps all over body

she was biting at some of them and just looked really uncomfortable

they almost look like ant bites although i know for 100% they arent ?????


could this be a possible allergic reaction to something
and has anyone else experienced anything like this

im taking her to the vet tomorrow

Bites?

HI, sounds like hives to me. If it is then you shouldnt wait to have her seen. Call your vet right away. I had a Boxer/Shepard mix that had hives. We took her to the emergency vet & they gave her a shot, said if we hadnt brought her in when we did she could have died!! She might have gotten bitten by some thing or ate some thingshe shouldnt have. Let us know what happens. Cindy

allergic reaction

When Haylee was about 1 yr old she had an allergic reaction similar to what you described. She had bumbs all over the side of her butt. It looked really weird because you can see the bumps through the hair. She hadn't been bit by anything. I called the vet he said to give her some benadryl. You can give her 1 benadryl 25 mg. That should fight any allergic reaction. It will make her sleepy though.

It worked for Haylee I hope your doggie is OK.

Yep, sounds like hives alright. Our Goliath reacts to the sting of the red wasp. He breaks out in hives and looks like a creature from outer space..very scary. If Allie is not having any trouble breathing the ol Benedryl trick should work. If she is having trouble breathing or shows any sign of swelling in her mouth or throat seek medical attention right away. Our vet said to give Goliath three 25 mg capsules but he weighed 75 pounds !! So depending on Allie's weight she may need less. Our vet said 10mg for every 10 lbs...so since he weighed 75 he got 3 25 MG capsules. So you can judge from there. One time he did get stung in the mouth and his throat began swelling and like Dincy said we had to rush him to the vet and they gave him a shot of steroids to counteract the reaction immediately...they also told us without it he would have suffocated. Good Luck and please let us know how she is doing. We will keep all of you in our prayers.

thanks everyone

i called my ex gf's mom who is a vet
she suggested the benadryl
it seemed to work

allie was kinda feeling sick yesterday afternoon and she still had diarrhea (sp) and wouldnt eat

but last night all was well again
im just going to keep an eye on her and definitely take her to the vet if it happens again

I hope by now you have found your answer
I had the same happen to my 12 wk. old fawn female, I nowrowed it down to wheat in the new food i was changing her over to. The maker of the food said to try there lamb, millet, rice
formala and they didnt come back. also benadrile works on mild
cases of hives.

Me Too

I going throught the same thing with my boxer. Tried food minus wheat-lamb-beef = Nutro chicken & rice & now I find out Nutro has something not so great in it. Read it on one of these boards somewhere. the vet gave predisone(spelling wrong I think) but heard that's not good either. Went to the pet supply food store & they suggested either Dolid Gold(holistic) or Wellness fish & sweet potato. Now I'm trying that the Solid Gold that is. My baby turned up his nose at the fish & can't say I don't blame him it stinks!!! My female doens't have the rash at all (so far) so now I'll see how the Solid Gold works out. Any other suggestions?
