All of the sudden doesn't like crate

Zeke has been left in his crate while we are at work or grocery shopping. He has always gone happily into it with his Kong toy filled with treats. All of the sudden on Wednesday he doesn't want to go in it. He takes off and hides from me. I kept showing him his kong with peanut butter (his favorite) and he wouldn't go in. This has gone on for several days and we cannot figure out why he is doing this.
This morning he his upstairs in a closet and I couldn't find him. Does anyone have any ideas?

How old is Zeke?
Do you only crate him when you are leaving? Maybe he's figured that out and he knows that if he goes in the crate, you are leaving. Try and crate him during the day when you are home for short periods of time and stay in his sight.
