All of a sudden crying in the middle of the night?

My sweet little girl Kiera has always been pretty good at sleeping through the night (though she still seems to need to go pee in the middle of the night almost every night- we are working on that!) but last night around 2:30am she woke up and was making some noise in her kennel, so I took her outside. When I brought her back in and put her in her kennel to go back to bed she started to whine? she has never done this before normally she curls up and goes back to sleep. I waited till she was quiet for a few seconds and let her out to try to see what the problem was, she walked straight out to the living room and went to her bed... ok no problems... brought her back to go back to to her kennel, and she started crying again, so again I let her out and she went back to her bed. I went and sat on the couch and she came and wanted to cuddle, within minutes she was passed out snoring. Now the house was pretty cool last night so i gave her an extra fuzzy blanket to sleep with and she seemed a bit better in her kennel after that, but still a bit of whimpering... could it be she was just cold? I hope I'm not over reacting, but I just really don' t want her to start a bad habit of waking up and thinking its a good idea to snuggle in the middle of the night! :S

(Kiera is just over 3 months old, and kennel trained since the day we got her.)

any input would be really appreciated... Thanks so much!!

What kind of kennel do you have for her? If you are using a vari-kennel style then I don't think she was cold because those have much less airflow and retain more body heat than a wire style kennel. If she didn't seem to have an upset tummy and fell right back asleep with you then I'd say she just plain didn't want to sleep in her kennel and decided to see if she could coerce you to let her out. I swear they are just like little kids sometimes...seeing how much they can get away with.

ETA: If you have a wire style kennel maybe try putting a blanket over the top, draped over the sides to retain some heat when it is cooler.

We've got a wire style kennel for her, and I have a thin fleece blanket that doesnt quite cover the whole sides of the kennel maybe i can try getting a bigger blanket to cover to the floor to keep some more heat in. I agree with you that she is like a little kid... shes very smart and likes to see just how much she can get away with!! :P Thanks for the advice, I'll try a bigger blanket and hopefully that helps!!!

this is just a stage she is going through.
She wakes up and is all alone and probably has a little energy to burn off.
So, making noise and whinning is the thing to do... :)

Maybe you should make a point to play really hard with her before going to bed it will wear her down and she will sleep better.

Good Luck!

Sleeping again!!

Thanks for the help!! We got her a bigger blanket to go over her kennel so its much cozier in there than before!! Since we made it a bit cozier in her kennel before bedtime shes been sleeping again thank goodness!! lol she tried it one more time the next night but we ignored her and shes gone to sleeping through the whole night now with no problems! Shes definelty my spoiled little girl lol. She usually gets her "crazy time" I like to call it around 9:30 everynight where she feels the need to run around like a crazy person... its absolutely hilarious!! So she doesnt usually have a shortage of playtime before bed! lol after she done going crazy its our snuggle time and then she usually has a hard time finding her kennel shes so sleepy! (its soo cute!)
