It stinks and she often sleeps right in it. I have made the space smaller but there is still room to make it even smaller. I feed her in the morning, around lunch, again at 5pm and around 7 or just before that. I slowly cut her water off around 8pm. We go to bed between 11-12. She gets taken out often and has actually learned to hit bells at my door to be let out. She's almost 11 weeks old.

Am I feeding her too much before bed? She poops quite a bit before bed, then poops during the night in her crate, and when I wake up around 1-2am to find it and take her outside she poops again! She's a poop machine!

Opinions?

What do you feed, how much do you feed, and how much does she weigh? If she's going that much (even as a puppy) sounds like you may be overfeeding. Are her stools normal when she goes?

I feed Kirkland brand puppy chow with a table spoon of wet puppy food. Sometimes I drizzle olive oil on top. In the morning I feed 1 cup, in the afternoon she will finish what she hasn't eaten from the morning, around 5 another cup and around 7 another cup. She usually doesn't finish it all.

She was underweight when I picked her up so I made sure she was eating well. She gained some weight already. Do you think I should start feeding a little less?

She weighs about 10lbs and her stools are usually pretty runny. Not diarrhea but not solid either.

I agree, is it possible you are feeding too much? Also, try to take her out earlier. If you usually wake up around 2 and by then she has already soiled her crate then take her out at 1. She's only 11 weeks old, you still have a lot ahead of you regarding housetraining, most dogs are not completely trained until they are 6 month old. Good luck.

3 cups a day in addition to canned food seems like an awful lot at 11 weeks. I'd cut out maybe 1/4-1/2 cup of food and see if that helps. Soft stools is many times due to overeating and going too much obviously is too so I'd cut out some of the food and see if that helps. Also I'd skip the olive oil. If you want to do an oil try fish oil instead.

Hmm, thanks for the advice! I'll cut down the food and see how it goes. I'm glad she looks healthier now so at least something good came out of all the pooping! Haha. I imagine if I keep feeding this amount she'll eventually become overweight.
