Agression toward weaker dogs

My Boxer puppy seems to have a problem. He is 8 months old and he has agression towards other submissive dogs. We have another dog and they play all day and he has no problems with her at all. However, when we take him to the dog park and take him off the leash, he displays agression toward any smaller dog and any dog who shows submission to him. Wih the bigger dogs he is fine. With the small dogs, as soon as they cower or roll on their backs he pins them down and starts growling at them and I am sure if we did not take him away he would bite them. What is wrong with him and what can we do?

My girl was pretty rude to smaller dogs when she was about that age. She wasn't meaning them any harm but her size seemed to alarm smaller dogs. She would also push them over with her paws and sorta lay on them once they were on the ground. She made alot of noises that scared the other dogs owners but she was only play growling and woo-wooing but they were not used to boxers normal play and sounds.

We fixed this problem by teaching her the "little dog down" command. Whenever she approaches another dog that is smaller than her we say "little dog down" and she will get into a playbow for a few seconds just to set the smaller dogs mind at ease. Often times she will do it without being told.

Just my 2 cents.

That is definetely something you guys need to work on. Maybe as soon as he gets on a smaller dog put him back on the leash or take him out of the dog park and he knows that behavior wont be tolerated. I am sure everyone at the dog park will appreciate it.

Skye is 14 mos old and does that too. If he gets really pushy, he has to go on a leash and watch the fun. Our female really never got pushy with small dogs but has gotten "the pack" mentality since we got Skye home. So now we only let one dog at a time off the leash to play.

My favorite thing is when a small dog stands up to him and knocks him on his belly (he really is a big submissive baby)--problem is finding one that won't put up with him.
