Aging Female- very lazy

I am not sure this is the right forum but we spent a long weekend with a 5 year old female spayed boxer and she is sooooo chill. I was so surprised. She would play with our 9 month old for about an hour and then lie around and sleep for 2 days. She just would rather lay in the sun on her back and suntan her tummy. It was the most hilarious site to see. Is this normal after a certain age? I thought boxers were pretty energetic even as they age. Is this what is in store for us in the future?

Well our elderly boxers have always enjoyed getting 'extra' sleep. Sophie especially if she could choose for herself would spend her whole day tucked up in bed - she is not bothered if she goes for a walk either but she is taken everyday. She does go out and play with our 2 year old boxer in the garden when she is in the mood, rushes round for a bit then you guessed it has some more sleep!

Sadie is 9 years old now & she takes lazy spells also,and lives for suntanning her belly
I think she started getting lazy about a year ago,but she still spends quality time with the young ones,and she's always patient with them

LC is 9 and is perhaps a bit more sedentary than when she was younger, but not by too much. I did find, however, she had a thyroid deficiency. She gained weight and was very lazy. Now since shes been on soloxene for several years she is as energetic as ever.

5 years does seem young to concider a senior. You could have a senior wellness exam done. They run a blood work panel. I think it would be worth the $$ to catch anything early and peace of mind.

Our Morrissey was running full force til he was 10 years old!! Only at around 10 1/2 did we notice he slept more and after a walk he would go to sleep for hours. We would stroke him a little to make sure he was okay because we were not used to him doing that! Morrissey's mommy.

Your responses are in line with what I was thinking...too young to be this lazy. She is alittle overweight. Her tummy is quite dark as she has done the tummy sunning thing for a few years. They live in Medford, Oregon where the summers are very dry and hot. Swimming in the pool is a fun event too. Maybe she does need to be checked out. I will pass this along. Thanks!
