Leonard is seven months old now, goes to large off leash park once to three times a week, and has since about 3months old. Plays well with other dogs mostly, theres an dog lake area, we always walk about a half mile to get there and he runs and plays along the way, while there he plays in the water, fetches things, and sometimes steals a toy now and then. There are often alot of dogs there and he plays well for a long time, but then starts getting a little edgy and we leave. Then he plays and runs back to the large field which is the start of the off leash park. For the second time he got clearly aggressive right out of the clear blue at a very submissive dog, right after entering the field. The dog rolled on his or her back immedoiately, but leonard continued to pin her , looking and sounding very aggressive untill I was able to pull him off her(or him). The dog he attacked was a mixed breed about his size and probably about the same age, and was clearly scared and cried out, but he just kept intimidating her, she wasn't hurt just scared. Her folks were furious and said you shouldn't bring a dog like that to the off leash I just said he's only 7 months old and this is not his usual behavior, and went on my way. I made him sit awhile and then took him home. I just wonder what I should do to prevent this in the future, and why he would all of a sudden go off on that little dog like that( the other dog he did that with a week or so ago was also very submissive, rolled on back immediatly, same profile) Is it because he was just over excited from the lakeside games, or does he get a little agitated when we hit the field because it means we're leaving the park, or is it a response to some body language? He's not neutered yet, but will be as soon as I finish this quarter at school.
