:( My lil'girl Sugar, she's a white deafie I adopted from a boxer rescue had surgery on her foot today to remove a button tumor and they said she didn't need pain meds but she's limping. What can I give her? Aleve?

Keep her quiet & don't let her move around very much the first few days.

You never give human medicine without first consulting your vet.
Many of the human meds for over-the-counter dogs/cats can't take. Off the top of my head, I don't remember the active ingredients in Aleve. The only pain relief that I know is safe for dogs is PLAIN buffered asprin. (never give tylenol, motrin, etc)

If you feel she needs something for pain, your vet can get you something.

Another thing to consider is that sometimes dogs need to feel a little pain after a surgery so that they won't over do and prevent healing. If pain control is too good, they won't take it easy and let the injury heal. It might actually be better for her to limp for a few days to allow time to heal before she starts putting full weight on her foot. But of course if you feel like she is in a lot of pain, talk to your vet about it and ask him to explain why he doesn't think she needs any medication.

I agree..........if she's just limping, let her body protect itself. However, I can't stand seeing anyone - man or beast, suffer needlessly. But if she can sleep, eat, go potty and be soothed by having you near - that is what she needs. If she's crying, panting, can't get comfortable, medication is in order. If you DO give aspirin, make sure there is some food given as well.
Good luck and hoping she feels much better in a day or two.

Do NOT give Aleve (naproxen) to dogs. It can lead to serious complications like g.e bleeding, ulcers, kidney failure, and even death. Like others have stated, I would contact your vet and see what they suggest you use (possibly aspirin?) Good Luck and I hope your baby feels better soon!!!!!
