Brooke is now three days post crop. We have already been back for the initial followup. She loves having the warm water cloths on her ears but HATES the actual wiping off of scabs. Any pointers on making this a little easier on both of us???

Can anyone else share their experiences with cropping. We did do our research prior, but nothing mentioned the scab removal we are doing. All I could seem to find in the internet world was info on posting.

on a side note, thanks to all of you who made me feel welcome already!!!

Instead of trying to wipe off the scabs, I like to just keep them moist with a general ointment. I use Furacin (horse/cow) ointment. I apply it once or twice a day as needed. Just keep them soft and they will heal up just fine.

:)

we've gone thru 2 earcrops, and we've always just let the ears scab, then naturally fall off. usually by the time we go to take stitches out, all the scabs are gone. ;) Our vet has always just said to let the ears "be". Keep your pup from scratching her ears so that she doesn't pull any stitches out. good luck w/ posting.. be patient, depending on your dog's ears and the length of the crop, it can take upwards to a year of taping. Good luck!

Did the ears heal as quickly? I am tempted to do just that and just take off the scabs when I go to have her stitches removed.

for now Brooke has a collar on to prevent scratching. I will add a pic on my gallery of what she looks like right now. Seems she has a pretty long crop. Vet said her ears should take well to it.

ears should heal fairly quick.. ours did. The scabs should just come off naturally.. and if they don't, the dr. pulling out the stitches should help remove the remainder. They may scab a little bit again after the stitches are removed.. but dont worry too much. Just let the ear breathe and heal naturally. By the time the stitches come off, your pups ears should be healed, and normal, no more pain. :) hope that helps! can't wait to see pix of the new pup. :D
