After a year, still peeing in crate

Gregory's sister is having a huge problem. She is a 1 yo brindle female that still pees in her crate. It is not consistent. Her mom can take her out, she will pee, come back in and she will pee in the crate about five minutes later. After a night of sleep, if mom gets to her before she stands up, she will pee outside, but if she stands up before mom gets there, she pees. Same with the after work schedule. Baby doesn't have any symptoms of a UTI, she eats well, drinks well and none in abundance. Mom is getting worried. Can anybody think of what might be going on. She is alpha female, so I don't know if this is a behavior or health issue...

Is she very excited? My pup did pee in her crate once when a friend stopped by to take her out. Bailey loves her son and and he ran up the stairs to get her out and she became overly excited and peed. She only did it for him though, when I or any other adult let her out even though she is excited she is fine. Since then my friends get her out before Bailey sees her son.

If she's been doing it for a whole year, then it is likely that (whatever the original cause) it is now just a habit. I'm afraid that it's possible you'll never be able to stop it since it's gone on so long.

But you can try. How large is her crate, and what sort of bedding do you have in there? How long is she crated for?

I'd suggest that she gets only enough room in her crate to comfortably lie down, and to get up and turn around. And take all bedding away. That way, if she pees in there, she will have no other option but to sit in it (meaning that it's a big deterrant). Do not leave her for long periods without potty stops.

If that works to stop her peeing, then you can gradually start to increase the amount of time she's in there without a potty stop. If she starts to pee (and wasn't before), then you're leaving her too long and will have to reduce the time.

If it doesn't work at all, then I'd say you've let the habit run on too long and it won't be broken now. In which case, I'd suggest you stop crating her. Try training her to use pee pads instead.

Unless you have taken her to the vet and he has checked her over for urinary problems I would suggest you do that. Not sure what symptoms you are looking for but the fact that she will or can't hold it is a symptom.
I would suggest you talk to the vet.
