I have an African Grey he is 12, going on 13 and I have had him for 3 years. I love this bird. He is so much fun. He has a huge vocabulary and still picking up words/phrases all the time.

As long as you have the time and commitment I say go for it.

A lot of what my bird says is stuff said to the dogs, "wanna go outside?", "wannna go potty?", "where's your ball", "stay in the yard" and he knows their names too. He's a blast to have!

African Grey or Timneh?
The Timneh is an AG, your post should say Congo, Camroon, or Timneh ;)

Aly, you got me there, I thought, Timneh, congo, and camaroons were all greys?

yup they are. Cameroon is somewhat less common as a pet (not a rare bird, just not commonly sought after). Timnehs are smaller than Congos. They are darker in color, tails are often maroon, and thier beak is often tinged with or completly horn color.
I was refering to your post title of African Grey or Timneh ;)
At least they arn't as complicated as the Amazons - For example Yellow Headed and a different type Double Yellow Headed (and apparently it doesnt mean they have 2 heads)

We have a 2 1/2 year old Congo named Abbey. She requires a substantial time and attention commitment, but she's the best. She already has about a 200 word vocabulary and loves to tease the dogs by calling them in my voice. As long as you realize that your bird can very easily outlive you and can make provision for that, I say go for it. Remember that they're very messy. They're very selfish when it comes to personal attention, and that they're always the noisiest when you want them to be quiet. Good luck!

DITTO DITTO!! lol. CJ has decided lately that if there is not a piece of apple in his fruit dish the dish doesnt deserve to be in his cage, so it ends up on the floor. We have found with him he only wants to be in the same room with us, so he hangs out on a playstand in the living room when I'm watching TV and is happy as all get out. His new trick is wolf-whistling when you walk in the room - always makes me grin :D

At the veterinarian office that I work at we have 5 birds, one being an African Grey. He has got to be the funniest thing. I am not sure when they got him, but I do know that they rescued him from a drug dealer's house that was on the run and he just abandoned him. Anyways, though he won't talk unless he thinks that you aren't listening ( I think that has to do with the was he was treated by his ex owner). One time when I was on my lunch break I heard him pretending to be Dr. Kitterman. He said "Hello, this is Dr. Kitterman........yes, uh-huh...yes, now about the lab work. (He always trail off at this part) and then he says "Well, thank you and have a nice day...click." I think that had to be one of the best things that I have heard him say so far. He says many other things also, gives kisses, etc. Everyone loves him, and he is just a joy to have. I am not sure about the other type of bird....but they may just as well be very nice.
