Questions for bringing home sibling puppies!

My husband and I will be bringing home our two adorable puppies in a little over a week and we are so excited. We have two small children and would love any advice on how to make this transition easy for them and for us. What should we do when we first get home? How much should they eat? Should we crate them seperately from day one or should they be allowed a few days to get adjusted with each other? We have already ordered 2 crates, but we are trying to keep as much anxiety at bay as possible!

We would love any advice on bringing home Duke and Bella and what to do when they get here!

I have 2 sibling pups, they are brother and sister and are 17 weeks. They have always been together and have been sleeping together in their crate, I actually have two 42 inch crates joined together which makes a large comfy bed for them and my 8 month old boxer Ruby.

When they get home, decide which area you want to confine them to, my 3 have the back room which leads to the garden and the kitchen, otherwise you will find potty training impossible unless you can see them all the time and anticipate when they need to pee, which at 8 weeks is around every 15/20 mins. Let them wander around that area, sniff, explore, show them where the water bowl is and their bed. Don't be too excited around them, let them relax and settle, they will probably sleep for a while. After sleeping, eating, drinking and playing take them both outside to wee, try and have a verbal 'request' for them to understand in time what they are outside for, with mine its 'Go on then' and now they do it as soon as I take them out onto the grass. When they go, praise excitedly and give them a treat, you will find that as 1 goes the other will follow pretty quickly, so you need to be quite alert, as it is the praise and treats that let them know that they are doing good and going in the right place.

At 8 weeks mine were fed 4 times a day, they will need to get into a routine so try to feed at the same time each day, mine are still fed in seperate bowls but together at the same time. Best of luck, you will find it chaotic at 1st but don't despair, they will just need time to settle in :)

I didn't have two of the same age at once but mine are 3 months apart. We just finished the potty training and shots and neutering and Dozer grew in all of his big boy teeth and then we got another i've been doing puppy clean ups since Dec.16th! Lots of paper towels! Take them out every 30-45 mins. immediately after they eat they need to go outside.:) Two is alot of work but alot of fun too! They wear each other out too! training will be a must! Look for a puppy class in your area. They WILL chew up and ruin things, but it's all replacable. Keep a good sense of humor about it and remember It was you who brought home two! Have fun! The payoff is double the kisses! :D

You're not alone!

Hi - we've just bought two sibling Boxers, white ones and now we're learning as well from the replies to your posts, so thanks to everyone. PHEW! Two puppies? I was writing out the cheque for Tilly who we'd fallen in love with when we couldn't fight the nagging voice in the back of our minds as we really loved Bobby too, so we just felt it was right to keep them together. So we're right with you on this one, let us know how you get on as we won't bring Bobby and Tilly home 'til the 23rd. Good luck :)) Ben and Katie
p.s. Our breeders have advised to crate them, but we know people who haven't... does anyone know what's best and why?

We will be bringing ours home on the 19th and can not wait. We are going to crate train ours, so hopefully all will go well. I know what you mean about not being able to seperate them. We actually were just going to get Duke, but his sister(Bella) is marked so much like him and is so sweet that we couldn't resist getting her as well. The breeder was actually really excited that we were getting both, because we are over there visiting with them atleast 2 times a week. She new that they would be going to a great home so she gave us deal on them. We just keep falling more and more in love with them and can't wait until they are here. Good luck to you guys as we will be in the same boat. Keep us updated with your two little ones!

Our breeders have advised to crate them, but we know people who haven't

Mine have slept in their crate since they came to me, but with the door open and at night the kitchen door shut. This way worked for me, they could clamber in and out of their crate at night but be safely confined to the kitchen :)
