Advice Needed: Backyard Waste Management

Unless you could train the dogs to open the lid, squat and go in there, I don't see much time savings. Not being difficult, I swear....just curious.

forget the waste system... I would like to take this approach.

You have to pick it up anyway. I am a big fan of the supermarket bags. We double them up and... right in the trash.

We collect and put in a trash bag lined bucket (with lid), and then put out for the weekly trash. Of course, since we've been barfing, there is less smell and easier pick up. ~ Cathy

using this system in my opinion is not about making it faster and easier than throwing it in the trash, it is about making it a more pleasant experience picking up the poo.

I don't enjoy walking around emptying poo into a bag, then placing it in the trash and a week later when trash comes, I have 3000 flies swarming around my trash can.

I'd think anyone would rather scoop up the poo, and walk over to a place in your own yard, open the lid, drop in poo, add powder/water, and you are done, vs mess with the stinky trash can, but hey that is just me.

I don't think picking up poop will ever be a pleasant experience. I use shopping bags to pick up the poop once a week. It's easier to pick up from the grass once it has dried, and the cool weather has prevented it from smelling. I will use a pooper scooper once the weather warms up. We have 5 gallon trash cans scattered about the apartment complex for doggy doo. My mom used to have a system comparable to the one on the site and it did nothing. Flies were swarming and the smell was horrible. I'd rather stick to the trash bags then drop a load of cash for something that may not work.

I swear to god! Once I did that, the poop just disintigrated...no preservatives to well...preserve it!

Don't think I'm being difficult, but if you have to pick the stuff up anyway and put it in the doo-doo disposer, how different is that than putting it in a paper bag and throwing it in the garbage can where it will go to a land fill and degrade normally anyhow?

Yeah, this is true. I suppose it all depends where your coming from. i.e The enviromental approach or the quickest 'nicest' method.
I dont actually know any one who has used a method where its supposed to break down and it has , properly. We had one of those doggy loos for our SBT and that did not work. My FIL used one for a retriever and that did not either.
Personaly I now scoop up and put in a tied plastic bag, then dropped in a big black bag, and put in shed untill refuse collection. Not ideal I know. But it works for now.

That is fine....if it works where you live. We have very sandy soil and we tried the doggy dooley and it drained too quickly. We now have a hole filled with dog poop. Our only option is the doggy bags.
