I took my 4 month old Piper to the vet for her second set of vacinations two days ago. She was also microchiped. She did very well, she was so busy with her wiggles and licking the staff, that she didn't even notice. She was fine the first day, but seemed a little tired last night. This morning she was not her usual playful self, but was more alert after we got to her puppy class. Since we've been home she has been lethargic, only up to potty outside with my urging. She has been down most of the day. Her gait is slow but steady. Her nose ran earlier (no longer), and was having more discharge from her eyes than normal. Her gums are pink. She has been drinking water and ate a little bit by hand. No vomiting. Stool this morning was soft. She raises her head when someone walks by, but does not run to the door as usual. Is this a normal reaction to the vacination? She had her first series before I got her so I'm not sure what type of reaction she had then. I am very worried and am afraid to over or under react.

Just let her rest, she may feel bad from the shots & microchip, make sure she is still eating, drinking, peeing & pooping. Hanley

Diesel gets sleepy and kind of lounges around too. The second set of shots he got gave him terrible runny poo but it was fine on his last ones. Some vaccines have a side effect of depressing dogs my vet told us once. I would just keep an eye out and see if Piper feels better tomorrow.

I noticed that Angel was very sleepy after her 2nd vaccinations, she was also off her food, Luka on the other hand was just as normal. I would keep an eye on her for a day or two :)

Oscar has a reaction to his shots. He gets runny eyes and nose. And the injection sight gets really hot and irritated. He now gets an antihistimine shot with all his shots. Surprising the antihistamine does not make him as lethargic as his vaccinations do. After his first shots he would get home and crash it was a shocker to me now that he gets an allergy shot he is all energy. I still watch him carefully a few days after. I would watch Piper closely and tell your vet before her next shots about her symptoms. They may recommend some preventive measures so your furbaby won't have a future reaction. Good Luck

Thank you everyone for your encouragement. Piper had a hard night last night, whined in her sleep a bit. She woke up this morning with "goopies" in her eyes about the size of peas. She couldn't get herself up so we carried her outside, when we sat her down, she went down like a tipped cow. She didn't cry so I couldn't tell if she was in pain or weak or both. She stood with our help and began to walk like a fawn for the first time. She looked like she lost 3 pounds over night. She drinks water like she's dehydrated. She ate some this morning and her poop was normal. I called the Vet first thing this morning and we will be taking her in this afternoon---this morning if there's a cancellation. Her mind seems clear, it's just her body doesn't seem to want to keep up with her!!

yuck, sounds like your poor pup defintely needs to see the vet. Glad they could work you in. I hope everything is ok and not too serious and she feels better real soon. Keep us posted on your baby.

Just got home from the vet. My poor baby had a temp of 105.5. They gave her a shot of an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and B complex. They ran blood tests and a parvo cite test. We won't have the results until tomorrow. They sent me home with some eye ointment, and a antibiotic "Simplicef". Not sure what that is yet, I will have to research it. I have to take her temp hourly, put rubbing alcohol on her feet and a cool bath if her temp spikes again. Poor baby, she is being such a good girl. I am so worried about her. There is not a 24 hour vet hospital in this area so I'll have to travel an hour if she takes a turn for the worst...but I would travel several hours if I have too. I welcome all your hope and prayers. Thank you.

Update on Piper. Her temp is down to a consistant 102.0. She still can not get up on her own. I have to carry her outside to pee. She's walked a little but is still wobbly. No poop since 2:00am. No more goopy stuff from her eyes, the medicine worked well. She is more alert at intervals, raises her head and even managed a little wiggle and licks when company came over. Appetite is good but she still has to be hand feed. I feed her small bland meals and give her water and pedialyte often. I called the vet's office three times but was told only part of her test results were back and the Vet would call when all the results were in. The office closed 45 minutes ago and still no word...another long, worried night!!! The Vet said yesterday that the vacinations could of caused this or she might of already had something that got worse when the vacinations lowered her immune system. I just wish that I knew what to do for her!!!
