BEST thing we ever did. Hands down, changed our life. Hubby was nervous to rescue an older dog. He liked raising up a puppy and "having more of an effect on her temperament" LOL (total ignorance on our part. Not true at all) ..our girl we have had since 8 weeks.... Naughty naughty girl. Her temperament is fine, but she is a handful!!! But our rescue, Bentley...I always tear up when I talk about him.

he is a blessing. So is Bella baby...just in her own naughty way
I will be honest with you. The night we brought him home, I cried. I felt like a part of me had to share...just as you mentioned. I felt I "took away" from Arabella, and I worried we made a mistake... But Bentley came to us sick, and we had to keep them separated, we didn't want Arabella sick too, and everything was very hectic. 3 kids on top of it, ..hubby and I each had responsibility of a dog..in opposite areas of the house, and it was just a total flip upside down. I wanted to get to know Bentley, but I was contending with Arabella, then when I had chances with Bentley Arabella would have a major melt down because she wanted to play too..but couldn't. So it was a heart tug...but ya know what... I did this SAME thing when we brought each one of our human kids home, I felt I took something away from my other kids and I gave actual birth to what I brought home!!!!!

I reacted the same to my fur babies...but let me say again...
BEST THING WE EVER DID !!!!! Bentley is the most wonderful dog. He is the calm of our Arabella storm. He is sweet and gentle, he absolutely loves people and is happy to just be loved on. Every body who comes to our home falls in love with him...even if their not even dog people

I cannot imagine life without him. So although adjusting was a bit emotional, it worth absolutely every step along the way. It has been great for Arabella too. Bentley is guessed to be 5 or 6. Arabella is still in her high strung puppy stage. But I love to watch them play, I think Arabella keeps him young and playful and Bentley gives her that playtime that only another (very patient) dog can give her. !
We almost got a puppy before Bentley and it just didn't work out. I started having some reservations and it was hard to walk away but we knew it wasn't the right choice. Arabella is still such a handful I'm so glad we didn't. When everybody on here advises not to get a second puppy when you already have a puppy...it is for good reason. Lol But a lot of doors were shut before we ended up with Bentley and I'm so glad... He is great. I don't regret it at all...... I have often wondered if I could clone him

I definitely think you get the bigger reward and blessing from rescuing ... I think you should go for it
