My little Lizzie has been sick the past couple days over the weekend we contacted MedVet because out vet was not open to ask some questions- they felt that it was not an emergency situation we had assumed she had a stomach bug. Today we went to the vet and she agreed that something was just not right with my little girl ran some blood test and discovered that her potassium level was at a 9 (normal is 4) 9 is deadly high she instantly took her back and got her hooked up to IV fluids and she is stay all night at the vets- I just rec'd a call from her saying that her count has decreased to 7.4 moving in the right direction bit not out of the woods. The vet diagnosised her 95% sure with Addison's Disease-she has started her on medications --- I have never heard of this disease and am feeling terrified for my little girl.. Hopefully she will be able to come home tomorrow-and then we will start new diets and lifestyle- hoping for some advice and encouraging words... thanks

I used to pet-sit for a weimaraner with Addison's Disease, he was on a daily low dose of prednisone and every month he had to go to the vet and get a shot (forget what it's called). It will be a lifestyle change for you and Lizzie but Addison's is not a death sentence, with proper medication she should be able to live a normal happy life.

Thank you - and yes we are on the predizone 2 times a day for 10 days then 1 a day for 10 days then every other day- as well as a shot every 3-4 weeks. I take her back in to have her electrolytes checked next Friday then her shot on the 2nd of November - hopefully once we get some time under our belt I'll relax a bit for now I'm on edge paranoid about everything she does and afraid to leave her alone for too long (thankfully I work from home) thank you again the support is appreciated - happy to report when is getting her spunk back just she tires easily- love my sweet Lizzie B
