Acne

Hello
I know that this is a really daft questions but our 11 months bruce has a few spots under the chin the vet said that this is acne does anyone elses boxer have these He's still a sweety though

Could be acne. Could also be the food bowls you are using. Make sure you use stainless or ceramic, because plastic bowls are a breeding ground for bacteria which could be the cause of the acne. I know, I've been there...done that!!

Samson had acne really bad, he was bleeding and it just seemed painful for him. Then I got a new boxer book and in there it said that acne is common in boxers. I guess they are just going through puberty. Also because of the folds on there faces. This can happen between the ages of 1 and 3. Samson had it for about 6 months.
Samson has always had stainless steel food and water bowls. I thought he was breaking out because of them. Well, I have been cleaning them daily and changed his food and they have cleared up.
What kind of food is your boxer on? Samson was on Iams, but I switched to Nutro. It doesn't seem as greasey and he likes it better! Also he isn't as gassy . (That is definetly a PLUS!)

Sadie has doggie acne. The sores would scab over and then she would open them up and bleed all over my house. I finally got so sick of cleaning blood spots out of things that I took her to the vet and he said she had acne. He gave us these wipes that resemble clearisil pads. They are medicated pads for animals and they work wonders. Whenever we notice the tiniest of spots we start cleaning her face every night with one of those and they clear right up!

Also using ceramic or stainless bowls are the best...we went camping and brought our cheap plastic bowls and by the time we got home her entire chin was breaking out...never again!

One of my cats gets chin acne too. One of the vets at school practices homeopathic/alternative medicine and he said that acne is common in dogs and cats. He said the best way to treat it is with benzol peroxide (sp?) - basically he told me to just go buy some Stridex pads and it should do the trick.

Acne is very common in adolescent boxers. Wash his face after every meal and that will help. It will go away when he gets older.
