Acne??

My female, Lucy has bumps on her chin that break open and often bleed. She has been seen by the doctor, and he says that she has "dog acne". I was told to use Neutrogena on the spot benzoyl peroxide 2.5% cream. This however...has not cleared anything up. I was wondering if anyone else may have this problem or maybe has even heard of somthing sort of along these lines. The doctor has no other suggestions...anyone else have any?? Thanks so much!!

It's pretty common in adolescent boxers. It usually goes away as they get older. Just keep the face clean and make sure that she doesn't eat out of plastic bowls as plastic harbours bacteria.

How old is your boxer?

She's only two. Also, thanks for the plastics tip-nobody ever told me that, so that is what she has been eating from all of her life!! thanks!!

It could be the plastic that it causing the problem. Try a stainless steel or ceramic bowl instead.

My old boxer, a fawn, had this problem and my vet told us to use the Tucks pads on his chin.....it works, pain in the butt really, we used to put some kind of cream like a human ointment for cuts on it too.....my vet also gave him shots for it.....he probably still has them but I'm not with him now...he's with my ex.....

It's sold in the tea/coffee section of the supermarket. It could be in the herbal section too, if you have one in your supermarket. It's just herbal tea.

Vegas gets acne if we don't wash his kibble bowl daily or wipe his chomps after he eats. Especially the wiping of the chops, it really helps. Alot of people I know don't wash their bowls when they feed kibble. A unwashed bowl will harbor lots of bacteria.

If we don't do either of these things he will get acne fairly quickly.
