Well the vet called to check on Jayda today and to apologize once more. She also made sure to tell me that the ACE research is unfounded and that the info in the book was written by a PhD not a vet MD... which makes absolutely no point.

Anyways, she told me that she was able to get authorization for me to get out of the plan without being fined if that's what I want to do. So I plan to call tomorrow to cancel. I was going to try and get out of it anyway, but that just makes the work much easier for me. I am really uncomfortable with going back there. So now I am looking for another vet, esp important since Jayda will need her stitches removed in 2 weeks!! Let the search begin.

That really doesn't make sense. :confused: It's IN the veterinary handbook... does it really matter who wrote it or how it got there?? IT'S THERE!!! And furthermore... you specifically said NO ACE!!! I mean, what point is she trying to make here?? Oh well, at least she apologized....

I too had the same thing happen at Banfield last Aug with Thor. I blamed myself for not talking to vet directly before surgery. I was told on Saturday that he was having surgery on Monday to remove a mct. I had talked to a vet tech the day before and the morning of surgery but not vet. He called after surgery and the first words out of his mouth were "Thor did great. And I'm sorry I used ACE. I didn't see the pre-op paperwork until after the Ace was administered." The vet and I had a "chat" when I came to pick up Thor. we now have an "understanding" my boxers will not get any ACE in the future.

Considering tho', how many of us have had the same thing happen, maybe we need to get a drive going to the corporate people and have them address this. Maybe if we put enough pressure on them, they'll make a corporate policy not to adminsiter ACE to boxers.

Wow, I don't want to repeat what everyone else has said, but I once took Stella to a Banfield clinic and was not impressed. Without rehashing the past, they gave me bad (untrue) advice. They misdiagnosed her d-mange as allergies and tried to convince me to buy Science Diet allergy dog food. They also told me that ACE was a very good sedative for all dogs. More practically, I found their prices were triple or quadruple the cost at any other vet. They wanted $1200 to remove a sebaceous cyst! :eek: I felt like I was at a store rather than the vet's office.

So anyway, based on your experience (not mine), my advice is not to go back there. Accepting the vet's apology doesn't mean you have to trust her with your baby in the future.

OK, I'm on the bandwagon! See my post for details, but seriously!

Our regular Banfield vet has never used ACE on Asia (she points it out to me on the paperwork every time). I believe her now because the vet we never use (our normal one was out of town) did surgery on her today and used ACE. They were about done before they realized her paperwork says "NO ACE" EVERY WHERE and that she has a history of seizures.

The ONLY reason we would stay with our plan is if our regular Vet can talk us in to it, because we really do, truly love her. This guy is a space cadet and I can't believe he did Asia's surgery. :( I'm sorry to rant! Not trying to be a thread hi-jacker here! Ha!
