At my clinic we will most often use Torbugesic (Torb) in conjunction with other sedatives like Valium, Diphenhydramine or Ace for premedication. In the case of cranky cats, or dogs, we use Telazol, which isn't a sedative, per se, but is a muscle immobilzer. Any of those work well, some better than others depending on the pet. Then the pets are induced via an induction agent (propofol) through an iv and are then intubated and maintained on a gas anesthetic (Iso or Sevo). Probably more than you wanted to know, but I just thought I'd share.

Thanks for the info.

I had to board my boxer and mixed breed over the weekend and I asked if they use any type of drug to keep them calm, since my dogs are SO rowdy, and nervous at the kennel. To my suprise, she said "yes, we use a pill called ace".
I said "NO ace!" and she wrote that on the paper, she was really nice about it and did as I requested.

Keep that in mind for those of you that board.

(can't wait to pick them up tomorrow morning! :D )

Here's a link on it.

I printed it.I may bring this paper to the vets this saturday when I take my mixed breed and Bichon in for their heart worm test... the lady (not a vet, though he may not be aware either) that took care of the kennel dogs had no idea about the danger of ace and boxers. I didn't really get into much detail but I made it very clear that no ace was to be used for my dogs, to which they did as I said.

anyways... www.americanboxerclub.org/health/ace_boxers.htm

BTW, my babies got back on monday morning and boy was I glad to see them!
:D
Their doing great, except my mixed breed has a mild case of the runs!

Well, I did take my dogs for their HW test Saturday (both came back negitive :) )..... anyways I gave the paper from that link I put up to the lady a the desk, she was very interested and said she'd even send a copy to her school (I guess she's training to be a tec. or something). If it helps one more boxer to avoid ace, then I am glad about that.

BTW, turned out the runs got worse! :o YUCK! I had to go get her some pills for that. It seems to be getting better now. (thankgoodness!)
