At not quite six months old (one week from 6 months), my boxer Rocky is 22 1/2" tall at the withers and weighs 52lbs. Is this large for his age? He looks bigger than most puppies that I have seen and he is completely in proportion. His dad was show quality and weighed over 100lbs fully grown. He is AKC registered and I have the pedigree back to three generations on both mom and dad. Is this normal?

Normal is relative to the dog. Boxers range from 35 pounds full grown to I've seen them as large as 100 pounds. My boy at exactly 6 months was 52 pounds, now full grown at 3 1/2 years he's 67 (and done growing) so sounds pretty normal to me. I don't consider it huge but I don't consider it small either. I'd say full grown your pup will probably be 65-75 pounds give or take 5 pounds. I'd highly doubt he'll be anywhere near 100 as they really start to slow down around this age and where he'll fill out over the next year it'd doubtful that he'll gain another 48 pounds in that timeframe.

Well and without seeing pictures of the sire, he very well could be overweight as well. Unfortunately many Boxers (well dogs in general) are.
He is probably slightly larger than average for his age - but boxer pups grow at widely varying rates (and rate of growth is no indication of final size - that is governed solely by genetics). However, with a parent as over-sized as his sire (assuming he wasn't just overweight), there is probably a reasonable risk that your dog will be similarly oversized. Note I say oversized - as 100lb is not desirable in a breed that is supposed to not exceed 25" in height and be about 75lb or so at that maximum height.
Maximums, of course, only matter for showing and for breeding. Besides taking up more space in your lap, it really doesn't matter if a pet dog is bigger than its breed is supposed to be.

. I was just curious as to other people's thoughts.This is a link to a picture of Rocky's Dad, then a few pictures of Rocky himself. Opinions? The breeder says he's the best looking puppy out of the 32 they have had so far.
