We are going to meet with a reputable breeder tomorrow, in the hope of welcoming our first Boxer into our family. We have been searching for several months - and we believed that we had a few months to keep looking. Now our "family addition" might be in a week or two - HELP! Any suggestions, such as crate size, food, etc. We are hoping to welcome a flashy fawn female with cropped ears into our family, and intend to have her spayed. Thanks for any help -

Hey corvus welcome to the board and congratulations on your future addition. This sight is probably one of the best things you can do for your boxer. Its full of plenty of helpful people and advice. All you have to do is run a search or make a post and there will be plenty of answers. We actually just got our pup a few weeks ago and the first thing we did was purchase a crate for him. We got a large crate that will be suitable for him his entire life but we also got a divider to cut down the size of the crate while he's still a pup. We gave him just enough space to get up and turn around comfortably, it has limited the number of accidents he's had in the crate. We also put some old sheets or towels in there along with a few of his toys to make it a little more comfortable for him. The divider is adjustable and can be moved further back to allow more room as he grows, It's worked great for us.

Hey I see youre from Conn. I'm originally from New Haven myself, moved down here to go to school and because the weather is great. Only 700 miles away and yesterday I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It is kinda tough being a yankee fan down here though. Anyway good luck with your new pup I know we are having more fun everyday with ours.:)

Thanks for the info - did the divider come with the crate, or was it someting you made?

Wish we had that warm weather - Jim & Jennifer

You can actually buy crates that come with dividers. We just told the person at the pet store that we wanted a crate big enough for a boxer that came with a divider. I think our crate measures 42" by 28" by 32" and the divider is a seperate piece that fits inside it. Hope this helps.

Welcome Corvus! :)

Information above from paige says it all. Just learned about dividers though, thats smart. I just put in a box to make the crate smaller because if you give them all the crate they will probably pick a corner to do their business in. Dogs don't usually go where they sleep thats why you give them enough room just to turn around and sleep. sleepicon

Good Luck!
