Hello boxer fans,

I feed 3 times a day but its like they dont want to eat much on one meal a day. Some times the eat good at night and some times its in the AM they eat good. So I guess my question is should I try to get them to eat more by putting broth etc, on there food? They are starting to lose weight but it might be the baby fat they are losing they are only 8.5 weeks old. I would love to hear some input.

Thanks,
Rich

Puppies are normally picky eaters. They eat, they don't. They like the food one day, the next day they won't touch it. Don't worry. It's pretty normal.

Dogs are night feeders by nature. So, most dogs will eat more in the evening and at night than in the mornings and daytime. Not all, but generally speaking.

You can add some chicken broth to the kibble to get them to eat more if you want. Can't hurt. That's how I got my Maggie to eat when she was being picky as well.

I do suggest that you not coddle the puppy over food. Feed the recommended amounts per the package instructions of the food you are feeding, and leave the food down for 20 minutes. If the dog doesn't eat in 20 minutes, take the food up and don't put any more down until the next feeding time. And don't add more food to the next feeding to "make up for" the lack of eating the first feeding. When the dog gets hungry enough, he's gonna eat, believe me.

Also, be sure to have the vet check the dog for worms, etc., to make sure that the weight loss is not being caused by a medical condition rather than just picky eating.

Good luck.
