i just want to share this site to you guys. i know how proud we are with our boxer but this will make you even prouder. her neme is deja and if im not mistaken she i the second boxer that ths particular handler train as SAR. the site is www.csst.org just click on csst canine

Wow, that's great! Deja is beautiful. It's so cool that they use so many different breeds...even a poodle! It's sad that most of Deja's job is to find people who are already deceased. I have heard that can really take a toll on a rescue dog's psyche.

One of my Champion boys was trained for search and rescue with the local CARDA unit. I had heard the same thing about cadaver (sp?) dogs. What they do to keep them from getting depressed (yes, dogs do get depressed) was to plant a live "victim". The dog finds them, they person shows they are alive and happy to see the dog, then the dog feels rejuvinated.

The entire SAR commitment is just totally awesome!

I also like seeing that there is a Pit Bull being used for SAR also! They get such a bad rap and it is good to see that the breed can be "advertised" for doing good! go Deja!!

That is awesome. I was also impressed to see they use the dreaded PIT BULL. That pit was used in the Laci Peterson case, of which I am sure most of you are familiar with. Nice to see such diversity. I sometimes wonder about using my white boy in search and rescue. He always plays hide and seek with the kids but I watch him backtrack to where the freshest scent is and follow it. How he can tell the difference I don't know but it's amazing what these dogs can do! My other boxer runs around like a maniac looking with her eyes but you can hide right next to her and if she doesn't see you forget it hehe. Cracker though, he unerringly finds you and goes right too you like he knew where you were the whole time. I may have to look into it and see what there is around here. Not sure I could deal with him being a cadaver dog though. I'd prefer hopeful live body searches...

it's amazing what a dog can do with the right handler. just take dacota the pitbull almost 100 searches on her belt which include live and deceased find. if all dog owners are as responsible like the people who take care of this dogs we wouldn't worry about certain breed being ban.

as far as deja, yes she only got 40 searches but 11 of those are water cadever whch is so hard to do. most dogs will loose the scent their tracking if they get in to the water. i wish Nitro can be just like deja but knowing Nitro and water i guess i can forget about water cadever lol.

like what i said on my first post Deja's the second boxer that Ms. Dyer use as SAR but i was wrong Deja (Deja Vu) was actually the third generation. She also used another boxer name Tanis who's one of the famous case was the 1993 kidnapping and murder of Polly Klaas and Juba (Passed away in 1996) who helped locate fatalities in the famous Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and the fire in Oakland Hills in 1991. i wish i can get a hold of Ms. Dyer and maybe she can make Nitro the fourth generation. since im having a hard time finding someone who would help me train Nitro as a drug detector maybe i can train him for SAR (wishful thinking lol).
