I agree with what everyone else has said. That is totally unacceptable behavior for anyone and especially a vet.

I would definitely do something about it!
Please keep us updated on how this goes.

Nobody has a right to even touch my dog!! (was this too obssessive?? oh well:)
I think you should tell about this to your regular vet because it must feel awful. How would he feel when he was visiting the doctor and doctor was not nice to him?? dogs have feelings too you know:)
by the way, what is a vet tech?

It is not acceptable and I imagine it is not permissible under their licensing requirements. At the very least I'd report it to the Better Business Bureau.

And, I'd go back at a neutral time and tell him what I thought about his behavior. Who knows how long it would take me to calm down enough to find a neutral time?

I agree with everyone else, this is totally unacceptable behavior coming from some one who works with animals everday and who chose this profession as their life work. I wonder how many other pets he has hit. Please follow through with this and keep us updated on what happens!

For some dogs going to the Vet is not the most enjoyable experience to begin with, and this "veterinarian" behaving in such a unprofessional manner could cause your dog to be fearful of going to the Vet.

I had a simular experience with Benson's old vet. Benson had an ear infection so she was cleaning his ears and getting a biopsy (sp), this was hurting him so he turn his head really fast to get her hands off his ears. She proceeded to grab Benson by the throat and press him against the wall. I freaked and told her to get her @#@%&%& hands off of my dog. I grabbed Benson reported to the reception and left the clinic. That was the last time they saw my dog and anytime anyone says they are going to that vet I tell them about Benson's experience. I have been lucky though... Benson does not mind going to the vet and his new Vet really loves him and she is really fantastic with him. I told her what had happened previous and she sat down with Ben on the floor and had a "Heart to Heart" with him!

My goodness!! Corgan is the worst patient in the world, he is scared of the vet's office. I can't blame him, he has had so many tests done and shots to get qualified for quarantine almost 4 years ago. But he never attempts to nip, he just poos on the floor. I wouldn't blame a dog for nipping at a vet if what they are doing hurts, after all they can't speak! I would be speechless if I witnessed a vet slap or harm my pets in any way! I don't know what I'd do after I recovered from the shock! I do NOT pay them my hard earned money for them to mistreat my babies! I don't care if Loke or Corgan would bite them, they better not slap them!

File a written complaint with the Vet Board in your state. I work for licensing regulation and they should have a complaint form that they can send you. Hitting a dog under any circumstances is uncalled for.

I once had a vet threaten to hit Maddie because she snapped at her. I simply told her if she did hit my dog I would hit her. Left the office and never went back to her. Come to find out she had many complaints against her license.

I do stress that she/he should be reported. The licensing boards don't know something is going wrong unless the consumer reports it. Maybe there have been other complaints on this Vet and your letter would be helpful in making a case against her license?

Man, that just makes me steam.

Jason: I can only speak for myself but I don't think I would truly hit another human being. If I couldn't hurt an animal I probably wouldn't hit a person. I said that statement in anger relief mode. I just wouldn't want anyone to think I am a violent person. Talk big words is about all. :)
