I've been wanting to share this quote with those of you who are grieving the loss of a dog since a found it. I hope you'll forgive me if I dedicate it to my dear Dingo, who left me on January 5, 2004, and to Riley, who it seems will be joining her sooner rather than later:

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them.
"And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart.
"If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

What a beautiful quote. When my dear Dakota died in November, the thought that gave me comfort was that I could learn from his gentle sweet nature to be more like him. I hoped that part of his spirit would reside in me.
