As hurricane charley is forecasted to hit my area. I am not sure what to do with the pup. He is a little over 10 weeks. We are staying put in our house, luckly we arent in a flood zone, so we "should" be ok. But it is going to POUR, and be windy as heck (for those who haven't been through a storm like this)

Anyways, i wont want to take him outside to do his business (im assuming he wont like the high winds, and rain pelting him, it feels like little needle pricks), so what should I do, just set some papers down? I dont want him to think going inside is the right thing to do. Perhaps put some papers down in the garage? Anyone ever run into such an issue?

These things blow thru pretty quickly---and if they dont and you have the eye in your area you can do a quick go out during the eye!
I know I grew up there!

A few ideas: is he small enough that a litter box with some sand would work? You might be able to convince him that it's ok to go there. Or, you could buy (not sure how much time you have before storm hits) or dig up some grass with the dirt attached and place it on the basement floor. He might go on that. Be safe!

Yep ...its coming our way ...Boo will just have to Poop in the house ...theres not much else to do ...I'm not going to stand outside in 80 mile winds & rain ...either is he ....he never was paper trained ..there wasn't a need for it ....but we will but papers down...if he misses ...we'll just clean it up ....!!! But knowing him ..he'll hold it until he can't any longer ...!!!! Bless his heart ....

The garage is probably a real good idea if it is attached. Just put some paper down out there and take him to it when he needs to go. He probably will hold it as long as he can. For those waiting for the storm that have never been through one, just use your head. I have been through several. Stay in and away from windows when the wind is at its peak. When the eye comes through, remember that it is a temporary thing and the wind will be back soon. If by some chance Charley intesifies past what they are now anticipating, they will issue evacuation orders. If they do - Do It! They know what they are talking about. If the winds stay down below 80 you can expect power and telephone outages and if you are in an area with trees, then downed trees and possibly broken windows. Good luck and let us know how you and your babies faired as soon as it is over. Also, the pressure will drop and your babies may become whiney. Animals are especially sensitive to the dropping pressure. Just give them extra hugs and loves assuring them that it is alright.

Just wanted to say stay safe to all those FL residents. My sister just moved there and I'm a little nervous for her. Unfortunately her husband is out on duty (Coast Guard) right now so she has to go through it alone with the kids and pets. So good luck and stay safe.

Hurricanes are crazy. We've had our share of them in NC the past couple years. Fortunately, my area's been hit badly onle 1-2 times recently. The damage they cause is just amazing. Be safe.

What about buying some of those pee pads at Petsmart (if you can even make it out and Petsmart is still open) and putting one down in the garage? I know they are scented to attract the dog to go on them. I tried to get Tae to go on one last week when it was totally pouring rain for 45 min after I got home. She wouldn't but it was in the kitchen, not the garage.

I was in Hurricane Erin quite a few years ago...I didn't have a dog at the time...but I do have an idea of what I would do...just my opinion

I would either buy some "Puppy Pads", (which pups seem to respond very well to) or use some old newspaper, and like you said, put it in the garage. That way he's:
1) Safe
2) Happy and
3) Dry
Or if the noise from the rain and/or wind hitting the garage scares your pup (which may happen) you could always try a bathroom or by the back/front door (which ever he normally goes out to do his business)...but like you said you don't want him thinking it's okay to continue doing his business in that spot...just try to be supportive. It may be sort of a hit or miss thing in the beginning...we'll pray for a short 'Cane for ya!
