A Sad Sad Night

It was a sad night for all of us last night. Doc is now in Lock Down at the Vets office for the next 10 days. Somehow Doc's mouth and my boyfriends hand crossed paths at the wrong time. My boyfriend had to go get 7 stiches in the hand and Doc had to be taken away. It isn't fair and I don't understand why he had to go because he didn't bit or wasn't aggressive. I am visiting every chance I can get, but Doc hasn't spent a night by himself since he was 6 weeks old (he's nine months). he doesn't understand why he is locked up and both my boyfriend and I feel terrible because there is nothing we can do. Why can't they just check his medical records and let us have him. We even tried to bribe the animal control guy. I don't know what to do to make this better and easier on him. Any ideas?

I'm sorry about Doc being in jail but don't understand what happened. Were they playing?

I don't have any advice, but wanted to let you know that I am very sorry for what happened.:( Please keep us updated.
Hopefully everything will work out.:)

No they weren't playing they just were walking past each other. I don't know how something like this could get Doc locked up for 10 days. The only reason is because the people in the emergency room reported it as a animal related incident. We begged them not to. I guess that's what you get for telling the truth.

I work on call in a local trauma unit here and unfortunantly they are required by law to report the accident. It isn't worth the loss of their license not to. Although some may not tell the truth from their expertise they can usually tell an animal bite. Animal bites are also very dirty so you have to weary of infections and also rabies. Since the dog was yours and you knew his vaccination history, this saved your boyfriend from going through the rabies treatment. I am so sorry for your predicament. You may want to have Doc looked at medically because he shouldn't have bitten to cause 7 stitches if they were just walking past each other..this is not harmless behavior and could happen again at another time to someone else which at that point he would have a previous offense and I'm not sure what they would do at that point. I am sure you miss your boy terribly. What happens after the quarantine? Do you get him back? We'll be thinking of you and hope that this was an isolated event that means nothing.

THANKS FOR THE EDUCATION

My fiance plays very roughly with his old girl Nala. Now I know that if he is ever bitten, I will be sewing it up myself! I would never want to see the "over zealous and very strong" Nala in a place where she couldn't lick everyone!

Thanks for the info! I hope the ordeal is over soon. I don't know what I would do in your circumstances.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear about Doc being locked up!
At the age of 14 weeks Buddy and my husband were playing, and accidently Buddy tore open my husbands nose with his claw. Of course hubby needed stitches, and of course the emergency dept reported the incident. Because I had all of Buddy's vaccination records the health dept just required that we keep Buddy under quarantine at home and let them see Buddy in 10 days. All was cleared and no big problems. I will tell you though that it was filed as a vicious dog attack (ROFL) and Buddy held that record for the rest of his life with the health dept. Even the man from the health dept laughed when he saw the size of Buddy and the fact it was labelled as a vicious dog attack. Freak accident, but one that was never repeated. (I warned my husband anymore playtime accidents and I would duct tape the wounds he would not go to emergency ROFLMAO )
I don't understand from your post the reasoning for Doc being put in lock down considering you say you have vaccination records and you make it sound like it was an accident not an actual bite.

I am thinking that because it was an actual "bite" that's the reason the dog was held. Here in Virginia the dog is held for 7 days at the animal shelter and you then have the option to readopt the dog, if you do not, the dog is destroyed as it cannot be adopted out due to circumstances. They no longer only quarantine for rabies :(

He didn't bite it was total FREAK accident. I can't explain it at all. I guess it is a manditory city ordinance that if the incident is dog related they have to be locked up for 10 days. I've been trying to get him out of it all day, but there is simply nothing I can do. I went to visit him this morning and he looks so very very sad in that cage like he did something wrong when he is completly innocent.

That is so awful, I think it is terrible that he has to be locked up like a vicious animal. I don't think they could do that over here. How is your boyfriends hand?
