Hey again everyone! I've been reading up on some of the boxer behavior forums, but I haven't noticed something that Boomer does and was just curious if anyone else's baby does this:
he stalks just like a cat-I mean if we play with him and throw his toy trying to do the "fetch" thing, he crouches and stalks it very slowly until he gets right up to it, then pounces on it. This is our very first boxer and he's only 9 wks old so I was just curious if this a boxer thing. I have notice more cat-like paw use, and just figured maybe this goes with it. Thanks for listening! :)

Both my boxer and my beagle did this as puppies. My boxer still does it! Last night I watched her crouch down then take a flying leap off the bed onto a friend's lab that we are babysitting! It was so funny; I laughed for probably 5 minutes afterward. She jumped so high and far!

Oskar is a pawer. He bats at toys and paws at the door to go out and come in. He doesn't do the stalking thing too much but I have seen him do it. He is a huge pouncer! He runs up on a toy and pounces on it and jumps on it! I love when he does this to snow balls and wonders why theya re gone?

Sounds typical of a Boxer, or at least it matches the desription of my Mom's male brindle, Spencer. He "stalks" his toys all the time and then makes the final death plunge and kills the toy...just as the big cats do in the wild!:p As for the cat-like paw usage, sounds like "boxing" to me, which is a common trait boxers are famous for....hence the name "Boxer"! I LOVE when Xena boxes. She does it very gently, like a cat playing with string, unless of course a squeeky ball is the object of interest....that she will box right out of your hand and send it flying! She has an awesome left hook!;) :p

Oh yes, Hogan stalks people, animals, toys.... I thought maybe he got it from the cats (we have two) because he lays on top of the couch and chair like the cats and jumps up onto the Bay Window sill too. He also furniture jumps like the cats do. I thought he was repeating what he sees them do.

I stalk him too. I crawl towards him and stalk him and it gets him started right away. The only thing is that his stalk is ended by a pounce/head butt to my face. I wasn't quick enough the other night and have a bruised nose right now. :)

Trinity does this all the time! She'll even do it to my husband and I when we play with her. If we walk over to her really slowly during play she gets down real low and then leaps at us. It's hilarious!

Hello,

My pup Sarge, acts like a cat too. i was telling my wife last night that i wonder if he had some kitty in him LOL. It's kind of funny he swats with his paws and climbs up on the back of my couch (not as graceful as a cat). The stalking is hilarious we have a cat named Mary Jane, Sarge was around the corner and Mary Jane came walking by and didn't see him, he got into the prone position and ambushed the cat, I never seen that fat cat move so fast in her life

They are so much fun
