Bella drools a bit, mainly when running or watching someone eat!
It isnt a problem though.

She is a GREAT guard dog and will bark at every noise from outside the door. Even if she is asleep, she will bark before she has even opened her eyes! evilicon She isnt viscious though and just does it as a warning, she greets visitors in a very freindly manner. :D

Boxers are GREAT dogs but need love, time, attention and patience. They are good with kids, loyal and are an absolute joy and will certainly become your best friend! cool2icon

Also, Boxers have certain mannarisms that you just cant find anywhere else! clowicon They are so cute and have the most beautiful eyes..............

Completely Boxer Crazy
I am glad that you are considering a boxer. I never want another breed now that I have fallen in love with boxers.

Drooling - Just a few days ago I was thinking that Samson doesn't drool anymore. Was I ever wrong! I have a rug in front of my kitchen sink, across the kitchen from the table and chairs. Samson will sit before me and stare when he wants a "bite." Normally, when he gives up the staring, he will back up (literally), without looking backwards, to the rug. He backs up a good ten feet. I tell my husband that he needs one of those back up beeps installed, like a truck, ha! Anyways, I am eating, and I look over at him, and he has long drool hanging from both sides of his mouth, a good 4" on each side. Ha! I love it when he does this. Why? I don't know! He does not do it often. Delilah has drooled perhaps once in her life. I think it just might depend upon the size of their lips and jowls. Samson has very large, hanging ones.

Cats - My boxers are not good with cats; however, my cats are farm cats. The boxers have never had the opportunity to get used to them in their same environment. Delilah is worse with the cats, in fact, she is sheer terror with them.

Children - Boxers love children and are very good with them. My Samson will lay down in the floor in front of a small child, perhaps 2, and allow them to touch and play with him. Children are fascinated with this. He is much better with children than he is with adults, in fact, when it comes to getting excited and wiggling and jumping around.

Boxers are a good choice if you are ready to devote a lot of time and energy to them. They are big lovable "kids." They are a constant source of humor and fun. They do require a lot of supervision. I highly recommend crating them when you cannot supervise them.

I hope you do choose a boxer!

Boxer Pal
Thankyou everyone for taking the time to answer my questions.

Drool....I love the look of the boxer... drool would be the thing which would possibly stop me, but I think I could cope with it.

To be honest, I am also considering three other breeds. An Akita, English Staffy and a Rottweiler. I have a feeling that the Akita and Staffy have a high prey drive, so may not be the wisest choice....I love my cats :D

Thanks again guys......Awesome website

Boxers are great. Neither one of my boys drool other then after drinking. My very first boxer would only drool when he smelt something really tasty. He wasnt raised around cats and loved kids, had them crawling all over him. Boxers are growing in popularty as a family dog. Which is why you have to watch out for Back Yard Breeders. If you were to get a puppy ad introduced it to the cat and were to train the puppy, I am sure they would be fine.

The Akita is a great dog, they are even used as service dogs. They are a little more hands off then boxers, meaning they dont crave as much attention as a boxer, they love for you to be around but dont need you to be.

Would you be talking about the American Staffordshire terrier(staffie) or an english bull terrier. I have never heard of an english staffie but if there is then I apologize. They are both great dogs. A friend of ours has an Akita and our room mate has a staffie. The Akita is a little tempermental due to the lack of breeding, but like all dogs you just have to make sure to get them from the right breeder and bloodline. With the staffies you have to be extra careful due to "breeders" breeding for a fighting stock.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is sometimes called an english staffy. They're smaller dogs, but that's all I know about them.

Just to clarify...I meant 'Staffordshire Bull terrier' , not the American 'Model'

I just assumed they are the English Staffie just as there is the American!? Theres also an Irish Staffie too yes?

Rottweilers are too cute also! However......they are not supposed to be that good with kids - Boxers are. Something you may need to consider????

Unlike TiggersMom, both my boxers developed their "voice" at around 8-9 months. My female is a better guard dog than my male, but he is still only 9 months and probably figures he'll just let her do the protecting since she's so good at it. LOL! It just goes to show you how different each dog can be.

English Staffordshire Bull Terriers are nice dogs too. People often get the wrong impression of them for some reason. I know quite a few people who have staffs and Brando's best pal is a brindle staffy called Jake. They're quite like boxers in character - crazy! ha ha ha!

When Brando and Jake get together they just run and run until neither of them can stand up anymore.

Lovely dogs - but not as good as much fun as a boxer though - I'm biased!
