A Feeding Question

Dan, I'm sure Maggie will do just fine on adult food. When Markus was a puppy, there was no such thing as large breed puppy food, so he was switch over to adult food quite early. This was upon the advice of both the breeder and the vet. I think he only actually had one large bag of puppy food.

I too had the same problem with Buddy and Kailee when Kailee first moved in. Of course I was having fits because Buddy could only have the lamb and rice, and I was gradually changing Kailee over to it, so I really didn't want Buddy into hers. They did eventually work it out, and the novelty wore off. After the first couple of weeks they stuck to their own bowls. However, Buddy was used to being able to leave some of his food, and go back and nibble later. This ended forever after Kailee came, because she always cleaned out what was left in his dish. I say give it time and the fun will be overwith.
As for changing Maggies food, it should be fine. Buddy was off of the Puppy formula and onto adult by 7 months. The puppy formula had too much protein in it and was causing him some problems. He did fine on the adult formula.
Just sounds like when we were kids growing up, one of my siblings always had something on their plate that I wanted. Just give it some time

We feed Kira Nutro large breed puppy formula. She is doing really well on it. So far her growth has been really even. I also feed this to my english setter. Lexi is doing really well on it. I really like the fact that both adult and puppy large breed formulas have glucosamine and chondrotin in them. Lexi's leg was fractured back in January and I really attribute her fast recovery to the Nutro food. Glucosamine and chondrotin make a big difference, especially for older dogs. Red dog, who is 19, is doing MUCH MUCH better since I've started her on these supplements. I know I've kinda gotten off the topic at hand but I really think these supplements are wonderful. Red's arthritis was getting so bad that she could barely get up and down or walk. The improvement is amazing!

We took Bailey off of puppy formula at 8months old. He is doing fine on nutro lrg breed. My dogs prefer the cats food and my cat loves the dog food. HEHE!!!!

Dan......I checked out the website for Innova and California Natural. Very interesting. So I went to one of the local dealers yesterday (there's only two in all of San Antonio, TX). I talked to the distributor and she recommended the Innova Senior formula for my 12 yr old cocker spaniel and my 11 1/2 month old boxer. The reasoning she gave was that the Seniors formula contains chondroitin and glucosamine. The chondroitin and glucosamine are currently being used today to help relieve the symptoms of arthritis and joint pain, but also is a major building block of healthy cartilage....thus a preventive. This is beneficial for large breed joints. Also, Innova contains lactobicilus acidophilus. Acidophilus is what you find in your yogurt that is so beneficial for digestion (and the reason it helps with the gas). Of course, I also like the fact that it has all natural products from the five food groups, including the fruits and vegetables. I started mixing it with their food yesterday and will gradually ween them off the present food. Guess I'll get off the soapbox. Thanks for the tip!
